The boat arc is officially over and we are back to our good old, uneventful family life. I have to say, it’s nice to have a little breather. I always found Becky’s steady and unwavering pursuit of Loid a little odd. Not odd exactly, little girls get crushes like that all the time. I just didn’t quite know how to integrate it with the rest of the story. But I like the way they went with it. At the end of the day, you just can’t help but fall in love with Yor 🙂
I’m not sure why but I have always loved Anya’s lack of loyalty. She loves her “Mama” and she will risk it all to help her even when it means going against bad guys but the second she gets a glimpse of a cushy room and delicious chef-cooked meals, she’s ready to switch teams. The girl has her priorities straight! Speaking of comfy rooms, I did quite enjoy Anya’s deadpan delivery when she stopped the apartment tour short after Becky’s, let’s say undiplomatic, comments.
There was one tiny detail I really enjoyed about Becky, more specifically her daydreams. She imagines stealing Loid away from his wife and being praised and adored because of all the privileges that she can give her new family, but she doesn’t change them. The Anya in her dreams still very much acts like Anya and wears her favourite black dress like she always has. Becky herself is wearing a series of mature dresses but the Forgers are just slotted in as is. For some reason, I thought that was very endearing.
But let’s face it, the episode erally takes off when Yor gets on the scene. She is a very necessary foil and her easy charm is enough to win over even her biggest rival! Or should I say: rivalS. Becky and Yor practicing punching was such a nice throwback to her and Anya doing the same thing. The boys at that school better watch out!
And then we got to see Fiona again. I also really like Fiona. Is there a pattern here. Do I just like all the ladies in Spy x Family? Yes, yes I do. I don’t think there’s anything worng with that! Fiona is a similar mix of soft and lethal as Yor but not quite as dorky. Which is a shame. But you know, I do love how they show that even an ultra professional pragmatist isn’t immune to luv. It’s sweet, isn’t it? And although it is used as a bit of a punchline here and there, the show never punishes Fiona or makes her seem less than for being so madly in love. If anything, it’s kind of a strenght in her charactre. You would think that anyone who opposes my beloved Yor would immediatly get points deducted but Spy x Family has always taken care to show Fiona as herown characetr with her own worth. She might not get what she wants int he end but we still like her. What I’m saying is that even with direct love interest rivalries, Spy x Family is not pitting the ladies against each other. Isn’t that great!

I just wanted to say Merry Christmas, and hope you’re doing well. Glad to see one of my favorite anime blogs is still the GOAT and having fun.
I think Becky’s crush works better in the anime than the manga because it’s easier to see that the “wannabe seductress” is still really an awkward, starstruck little girl all the time she “makes her moves.”
Anya and Becky were so cute in this episode! I love how all it took for Anya to side with her best bud was the promise of tasty food! Super funny!
Anya going along with the shenanigans was hilarious to me.
