Ok so that post title doesn’t have anything to do with families but it was too perfect to pass up. Is there a Japanese idiom that’s equivalent to a smart cookie? Because otherwise then it’s quite a coincidence!

I missed a good ‘ol academy adventure. For some reason, those are always my favourite parts of Spy x Family. I mean that’s what the main plot is, right? It’s the type of show (and manga) that meanders a lot so it’s easy to forget sometimes but we are all here to see if Anya can somehow get close to Damian and maybe, just maybe, there is a chance.
It is sweet to see how close Becky and Anya are. It sometimes seems like Becky might be pushing her around a bit but it’s just how Becky is. She is a pushy little girl who has been spoiled by her parents who have really substantial means of spoiling her. But deep down she does care about Anya. Even like her. And Anya also likes Becky even though their interests diverge. The thought of being separated from her is really scary to a girl who has a friend “her own age” for the first time in her life.
This is why the cookies were extra important. It’s not only about the mission, not only about keeping her found family together, not even about saving the world, it’s about being with her friend next year. And that’s super extra important. I agree! Also Anya was quite adorable this week.
I think Damian agrees with me on that one. Damian’s affection fro Anya has been clearly illustrated for some time now. I wonder if they’ll ever do anything about it. He never really formulates clear thoughts on the subject so she can’t find out by reading his mind. Maybe he hasn’t even quite realized it himself. I wonder what will happen when he does. I suspect a lot of very red, very awkward kids!

The episode flew by and I thought it was more or less evenly divided but Anya’s dessert adventure actually took up 2/3 of the runtime. The second story was a bit of run-of-the-mill filler but it did have a few important tidbits throughout. Also, I like both cats and Franky being a bit less of a creep so it was nice. I think the Franky and Yor combo has potential. We should see them pair up more.
Maybe it’s just me but I thought it was interesting that Franky has a number of new gadgets. He mentions a new super secret gun, he has these cat decoys as well. Franky is always presented to us as an informant but he also seems to be something of an inventor. Something of a Q to Loid’s James Bond if you will. Twilight is more of a classic practical spy and we haven’t seen him rely on amazing gadgets too much but apparently, they are available. I hope we get a chance to see more. I like crazy cartoon gadgets! And it could be a clue that the story is going to go into a more classic spy action direction if they do pursue this.
I know I’m writing as if I don’t know where it’s going. But in a way, I don’t. I know the next arc and quite like it but anything beyond that is as much a mystery to me as it is to you. Maybe moreso. I haven’t been too great at predicting plotlines lately!
The other tidbit that I found interesting is the introduction of The Garden. Introduction is a big word. Mention is probably more accurate here. Franky basically just lets us know that they exist and seem to be a group of urban assassins. Assassins you say! Also, we aren’t entirely sure if they exist but it seems likely because why would they mention them otherwise?
To me, this short story seemed like a setup for more spy action to come but maybe I’m wrong. In any case, the cliffhanger certainly was intriguing!

Anya’s true super power isn’t reading minds, it’s her super cute teary eyed face! I was very intrigued by the mention of The Garden. Considering that Yor’s assassin name is Thorn Princess, is she part of The Garden? It would kind of make sense that Yor would have coworkers in her other occupation. I can’t wait to find out more!
I loved this episode! Anya’s little crying face and Damian’s expression. So cute!
