I’m finally back from vacation but now I’m sick. I’m soooo sick. It’s just a cold but it’s a yucky one. I’ve been battling it all week but it really got bad these last few days. I just hope I can get better tomorrow so that by Monday I’ll be ready with my Anya costume. I’ll be so sad if I have to stay home after all that. At least I got some Spy x Family over the weekend!

I am getting better. Yesterday, I probably couldn’t have written a post. If this one is a little loopy, blame the cough syrup!
For me, this episode was all about celebrating the other kids. Sure Anya’s the best and we all know it but let’s make some room for Damian and Becky.
I always liked Becky. We rarely get a best friend in these type of stories and honesty it’s not like Spy x Family needs her but when I decide to interact with the story as if it’s real, I’m always so happy that Anya has an actual friend. And regardless of what you may think of Backy, she really is a friend. Anya’s not always easy to keep up with and Becky is doing a great job.
I’m happy that she gets a quirk of her own with her crush on Loid (who is after all quite handsome). If anyone is going to be a challenge for Yor, it’s Becky! I wonder if they’ll keep this as a running gag for future episodes.
And then we have Damian. I have already mentioned that Damian may not be the simple bully he appears to be at first glance. He does have some major daddy issues! Ok, so let’s be honest, what bully doesn’t have serious daddy issues, am I right? I guess that doesn’t really make him special in any way. But I do like how Spy x Family put in the effort to portray just how deeply desperate Damian is to get even a sliver of attention from his dad. It’s really the end of the world for him if he can’t get just a tiny bit of approval. And from his point of view, Anya is acting pretty sketchy. And aggressive. He’s actually being fairly patient with her.
Anya hasn’t caught on to it yet because she’s a bit too young to understand and maybe she hasn’t read the right thought. But in time, if she figured it out, Anya could very well become the only person who knows Damian’s pain. And considering her own background, she might even be able to relate in some small way. Loid has been very patient and present with her and despite what he may tell himself, I think Loid honestly cares deeply for Anya. But to Anya, her family is still very conditional.
If the mission fails or if she isn’t good enough to help with Operation Strix, she could literally lose it all at any moment. Go back to a third-rate orphanage where she barely gets enough food, if not worse. It’s not exactly the same type of pain and let’s face it, Anya is pretty impervious to depression anyways, but she still understands this idea of not being good enough as you are. Of having to pretend to be something else. There’s potential for these two to have an actual friendship down the line, who knows.
The last act was two vignettes of Handler and Twilight meeting up each from their respective points of view. And it was cute. These two have a great professional relationship.
It looks like we’re in for more Yuri next week. In fact, Yuri, Bond, and Anya! Now that’s quite the trifecta. Yuri didn’t get to meet Anya last time since she was already in bed and I’m really looking forward to this encounter. If she reads his mind and finds out he’s after Twilight, then it’s going to be chaos! The best type of chaos!
