Guess who just spent 25 minutes or so snivelling and tearing up with a huge smile on their face. C’mon, I’ll give you three guesses.
Nope! It was me!!! You would never have guessed that I know. Just wanted to surprise you there.

Yes, I did know everything that was going to happen in this episode. But it didn’t change how it made me feel. I guess I’m just not a person who minds spoilers in general. A good story is a good story and it doesn’t need to surprise you all the time. Like I did in my opening paragraph!
I think many of you guessed that Loid didn’t actually kill the dog in the closing shot of the last episode. It would have been difficult to make your leading man a dog killer I guess. And Spy x Family hasn’t been a cruel show so far. That’s why it’s difficult to see Loid as very scary. Yor, sure. She can be terrifying in an adorable and endearing kind of way. But not Loid, he puts on a calm front but really he’s a dork, right?
Seeing those eyes glint out of the fog reminded me that this man is not to be trifled with. I mean, he would have to be formidable to stand his ground with Yor and Anya, wouldn’t he?

Speaking of which, did Yor just kick a moving car out of the way. In most shows that would make me roll my eyes but Spy x Family has done the very smart thing of always allowing for a bit of ridiculousness in the story. It makes little scenes like this just fit right in and come across as fun instead of stupid. Or maybe I’m just really into the show and it can do no wrong. I bet it’s a bit of both.
Isn’t Bond blushing just the cutest thing? There is a right answer here!

So by this point in the episode, the family is back together and I feel this unexpected sense of relief. It was fun seeing them all to their own thing but there’s just this comfort at seeing them all together, n a sense for the first time because Mr. Dog is here. I’m also already a little giddy because the dog from the opening scene is ok and no one got hurt. I’m smiling.
And then they hit me with the rollercoaster. The family all clearly so happy to see each other. Sniff. Loid getting all protective dad angry because Anya went off on her own in a dangerous situation while also blaming himself for not having been able to prevent the incident sooner and having it affect Yor and Anya. Awww double sniff. Loid thanking Mr. Dog for protecting his daughter. My Heart! Anya throwing a fit to keep Mr. Dog! You go girl, my eyes are stinging a little. Handler telling Anya that she should take good care of the dog because he probably has had a hard life. I should probably get a kleenex. Handler off-handedly mentioning that she “had” a daughter Anya’s age. Ok, I’m gonna need the box!
And let’s face it, seeing Bond get used to having a loving family after all he has been through just made me go through that kleenex box even more. So sweet. I would like to point out that although this is not the first time we see Loid’s moral dilemma about using his family for his mission, it was insisted upon more in this episode. It’s an important conflict and a difficult one to resolve. I’m impressed that Spy x Family is confronting it head-on like this.
Thankfully, the last act of Anya going back to school and trying to find a good name for Mr. Dog was back to the more careless fun of the series so my heart got a little break. I almost put the tissues aside. I needed to pick them up again when Bond officially got his name and bow tie. but it was worth it.
What am I saying, the whole episode was worth it. It was tender and touching and great. And the preview for next episode looks amazing!

thanks.
I loved this episode , and the actual spy thriller stuff was actually pretty good. This show balances it’s themes and characters very well.
I think so as well. And t just makes me want to watch the next episode
Yup ! I was so happy to see it return
That was a good one. My personal favorite with Yor is when she kicked the terrorist in the alley and he went bouncing front wall to ground to wall like a pinball in a machine.
Loid looked perfectly willing to kill the terrorist but not the dog.
Oh yesh, the terrorist ricochet is satisfyingly to watch no matter how many times you see it.
Episode 15 was a great episode, and it definitely tugged at the heart strings throughout it. But after watching last week’s episode and seeing Handler’s monologue and learning about her daughter in this one, I’d really love to know more about her. She’s definitely been through a lot.
But I was really happy to see Bond get his bowtie at the end of the episode. I’ve loved seeing him in his bowtie in various images I’d seen online before his introduction, so seeing him getting this made him complete.
I also thought the Bond in a Bowtie scene was a crowning moment for the episode. It just brought everything together
SOMETHING is up with Yor. She does a lot of things that would require superhuman strength without anyone really making a point of it – it also happens in the manga but it’s more noticeable when things are in motion. It’s also a good question how she became a prolific assassin when still in school.
I’m not waiting on an explanation, though, because of one of my favorite qualities of Japanese media: Characters generally relate to the things that happen with an attitude of, “I am not owed an explanation.” Son’s goldfish turns into a little girl? “Life is amazing.” The seaplane pilot is a pig? “It’s a long [untold] story.” Giant radioactive dinosaur? “Someone should make a little wooden model of it so we can follow it on the map.”
As viewers we just have to sort of take on the same attitude or we’ll get frustrated. Yor’s strength might be explained eventually – or, it might not. I’m also watching “Shakugan no Shana” right now and the explanation for, “Why does Shana like melon bread?,” is three episodes that create far more questions than they answer. Gotta be careful what you wish for…
Magical realism is a big part of anime, you’re right about that
Aw, what an adorable ending, appropriately screenshotted. I loved this episode. It’s clear that both Bond and Handler have been through a lot, but the show uses this to maximum effect without overwhelming the episode’s mood. And then that ending shot of the Forgers watching Anya and Bond sleeping. It’s just adorable, and you want it to last.
I try to give a visual walkthrough of the episodes in these posts. This one was hard to narrow down. I could have thrown in 100 screenshots. Every tiny moment seem to contribute something
