I love when Yor goes feral. I’m not sure what it says about me but all my favourite scenes are ones where Yor is in assassin/ mama bear mode. and all of them usually involve Anya somehow. Because if there’s one thing Yor does very very well, it’s take care of the little ones she loves.

I was talking to a friend about Spy x Family recently (yesterday at lunch in fact) and we both agreed that it was nice to finally get a bit of a more involved arc like this. admittedly, the current volume of the manga is so far 3 unconnected stories and it has been my favourite yet. They really stepped up the character depth lately and ok, very minor spoiler, Yor just unknowingly made friends with Damian’s mom. Yeah! Anyway let me get back to the boat arc. It’s everything I want from the show. Assassins around every corner, breath-taking action and danger lurking in the shadows, and Daddy-daughter bonding. Isn’t that what we’re all here for?
One thing that can rub some people the wrong way is that Yor and Loid are perfect. I mean at what they do. They are both clueless dorks 99% of the time but when they snap into work mode, they are pretty much superhuman. Personally, I like it. The gap between the uber-cool assassin and spy and the bumbling new parents is a gag I will never get tired of. But for those who were hoping the see something else, this arc must have been a huge letdown.
Because so far Yor is not only a truly great assassin, she might be the very best one and then some. It’s amazing how such an unsure and timid young woman can make impeccable and completely out-of-the-box snap decisions when she needs to.

I’m saying that the murderous circus act scene was awesome. Like a choreography. Come to think of it, it’s now two episodes in a row that Yor incorporates what looks like dancing into her bodyguard work. If ever she does decide to quit her current vocation (can you really just quit being an assassin?) she can always become a dance instructor.
Have you noticed how often Loid looks annoyed when he ends up having to carry Anya back from somewhere? To be fair it happens a lot and is mostly because she won’t listen to him but it’s still a striking image. I bet that he would miss it so much if she told him she didn’t want to be carried anymore.
We see images of the war from time to time and it’s awful. It looks like entire villages have been more or less destroyed. And we know that it wasn’t that long ago. I mean Loid is in his late twenties or early thirties and the war broke out when he was a kid. He fought in it when he was of age. The war only “ended” a couple of years ago turning into a cold war. But Ostania looks pristine. Is Westalis completely destroyed and that’s what we keep seeing in flashbacks? If so, I kind of understand why they might have a bit of a grudge…
So things are coming to a head. Yor and her charge will either make the rendez-vous in the next few hours or…not. Either way, it’s bound to be exciting!

OMG, this episode was so good! I loved how Anya kept trying to get Loid distracted with activities so she could sneak away and help Yor, but instead she kept getting distracted by the activities! Yor really is epic to watch! The battle scenes with Yor are really amazing, and animated so well. Though Yor is a super assassin, this arc has shown that even she can improve a little. Though her supervisor and elder assassin doesn’t reprimand her much, he has pointed out some mistakes that she could do better. Like when he pointed out that she forgot the secret knock when she answered the door for him.
