Just as I was rejoicing last week that The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again had taken a week off and I wasn’t too far behind, the show goes and releases two episodes in the same week. I’m not complaining, double the cat, double the fun!
Oh but that means too many screencaps again…sowwwwy

I mentioned before that the stories in the anime are out of order compared to the manga. And interestingly, the events that happen in episode 8, are all pretty early on in the manga. I’m not sure why they chose to move the order around. It sort of messes with Saku’s characterization.
Saku’s a bit of a mess. We all know that quite well by now. But if you just watched the anime, you would get the impression that it’s all she is. And it’s not. Yukichi helped her get her home life together which improved her work performance, but she was always pretty good at it. She can put up a front at drinking parties and I am led to believe that that is in fact a very important professional skill in Japan and she has always been kind. Moreover, she kicks a*s when it comes to dealing with pervs and punks. Saku’s cool and a lot of people admire her with good reason. I think that without both sides of her personality, the character comes off as a bit of a caricature. As such, I really wonder why they decided to put these character-defining tidbits so close to the end of the season.
Also the kitten was super cute!

I’ sort of blurring both episodes together here. I watched both of them in a row and because of how Slice of Life the show is, it’s almost impossible to tell when one episode ends and another begins without the credits to separate them. I guess that can be said about most shows to be fair. It’s just so easy for me to move the vignettes around in my head.
I do think they show the flashback to Saku and Yukichi’s first meeting a bit too much. I understand that it’s foundational to everything in the show and that it’s also just a very cute moment but I feel like we see it almost every episode and it gives me the impression that it’s a bit of a clutch now. Maybe it’s just me. Do you guys think they show that sequence just a bit too often? Like they can skip the park scene and go straight to the stuff we haven’t seen before.
I have been meaning to mention it for a while, I really like Saku’s leisurely home outfit. Her green hoodie and striped shorts. I want those.

I watched both episodes one after the other, so it was a little funny to have a recap of things I had just literally seen. Binging really has changed to way we enjoy media.
What do you guys think of Saku’s coworkers? I do enjoy the fact that they have such different personalities. They aren’t just stock background extras that can be switched with one another and no one would tell. On the flip side though, I can’t help but feel like I’m missing out on some backstory here. Especially for blondie. She has some bite to her.
I’m jumping all over the place… Ok so for a second, I thought that Yukichi was going to get a crush on that white cat, you know, like cats do. And it would have been awkward cause Yukichi is so much more anthropomorphized than all the other cats so as to not even really seem like the same species. But surprisingly, or maybe not so surprisingly, they avoided that all together and stayed just so damn cute instead.
and that was it for this double week. We are getting into the last quarter but as far as I’m concerned, I could watch these two forever. It’s such an easygoing show.

They do show the meeting a bit too much.
Judo Saku was pretty cool. I’m not sure why they would back-end it either, unless they thought girls who can take care of themselves aren’t attractive enough, so they waited for attachment to settle in? (For what it’s worth, as a non-manga reader, I’ve always had the impression that she was good at her job and respected for it.)
