The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today is a really good show for the end of the week I find. Because it’s just so relaxing and undemanding. You can sit back after getting home and put an episode on like it was nothing. And that’s more of an accomplishment than you might think!

Isn’t Yukichi great when he blushes? I’m not sure why but it gets e every time. The contrast of the pink on black. The ridiculousness of the idea that his fur is changing color. The entire concept is so completely daft in the most adorable way. How could I not love it!
I have never owned or even tried out a kotatsu. I’ve seen images, they look super comfy!:

Honestly, if there was anywhere in the world these things should catch on, it’s Canada! Why aren’t there tons here? If someone figures out the marketing, I bet they could make a fortune selling these to the Western market. And yet, not only have I never seen them here, I’ve never really heard of Kotatsu or anything equivalent anywhere else in the world. That baffles me. Maybe I just don’t have enough heated table culture and they’re actually all over the place?
So the first short story was about Saku wanting to get a new kotatsu and Yukichi being against it because she always made a mess around it….and almost burned down the house. He kind of has a point. I really liked the scene where Ykichi decided that she went to kill herself because he didn’t let her get a kotatsu. Yukichi is also a dork sometimes and that makes him cool!

I don’t have a screencap of it but for some reason, I always think that the street view transition shots in this series look super dramatic. Completely out of place with the type of show, this is. Like they belong in some gritty crime drama or maybe a psychological thriller. I’m not sure if it’s on purpose or not but I kind of find them hilarious. If it is on purpose then kudos. That’s some subtle wit and it’s a complete anime original Nothing even close to that tonal dissonance is in the manga. If it’s not on purpose… well I like to think that it is!
Yukichi putting the cat grass in the vase is such a perfect summary of this show. I think they should have used that short sketch as the trailer. Maybe as the intro animation. You don’t even need any dialogue!
If any of you have read the manga, you probably realized by now that the order has been heavily played with. That’s fun for me because I never know what’s coming up next but it does occasionally feel like there is some context missing or short stories are kind of disconnected. Like what was the deal with the delivery guy? It would have been good to see what his Senpai told him, you know?

Awww, I wanted Saku’s mom to visit! I bet she would have loved Yukichi. Everyone does! And she would have been impressed that her daughter managed to keep such a masterful cat! I also wanted to see the photoshoot. At least a montage of it or something. A My Dress Up Draling type of staged images! I’m whining a lot today, it seems that all the things I wanted to see weren’t actually in the episode.
But that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it. Yukichi being thrilled about the sharpening stone was really fun to watch. His ongoing disdain at Saku for her lack of domestic knowledge is one of my favourites bits in the show. He takes care of her and cares for her but he still thinks she’s a loser. It’s a fun subversion of the benevolent animal caretaker. Imagine if Cinderella’s little birds all rolled their eyes at her when she sang her little I want to be a princess songs. Be honest. That would have been awesome, right!?!

OMG, this episode looks so cute! I can’t wait to watch it! Hmm, I’m pretty sure most cats (even the ones that aren’t that masterful) adore and love their humans, but also look at them with disdain. I’m typing this while my cat is staring at me with disappointment this very moment!
Our cats would have used the sharpening stone on their claws.
Why have I not heard of this show lol it looks so goofy .
