Did you need a dose of cute this week? Cause if you did, The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today has got you covered. Adorable way to beat the mid week blues!

The way Yukichi got to be in Saku’s life is very sweet if a little heartbreaking if you really think about it. I’m not sure what Japan is like but we don’t really see many abandoned kittens around here. I’m not sure why. However, if I should ever find one, I will most definitely adopt it! Free live-in maid and cook, that’s priceless. This is the lesson we should all be taking in here. OK, just having a kitten around is great! Even if they don’t cook for you!
Although there are still a few visual tricks, generally the production has settled into a much calmer and more conventional style since episode 1. I’m not sure what this will mean in the long-run but it is keeping me on my toes.

One thing I have always loved about The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today is the tiny subversion that Yukichi is not in act a selfless innocent kitten completely obsessed with making his owner’s life better. He is self-serving, very aware of his owner’s shortcomings, and a little scathing in his assessments. And isn’t that exactly how a cat is supposed to be? It’s a trick question, the right answer is yes!
I have to admit I really liked the kitty slap. It’s something that needs to be seen in animation to be truly appreciated!
Another thing that has always captured my imagination is the mystery of Yukicji’s size. We established in this episode that giant masterful cats are not something that just exists in the universe of the show. Yukichi is an oddity. And so far, there is no explanation for it aside maybe from the fact that Yukici had no choice but to grow this size to be able to take care of Saku. A very adorable notion ut not one that has been confirmed in any way so far.

Saku and Yukichi don’t live in a bubble. Both of them encounter outsiders regularly. We already know that Yukichi has a friend from their building. The older lady that’s one of their neighbors and seems to have just accepted him as is. But then there’s the folks at the grocery store who think Yukichi is some type of, let’s just say eccentric that goes around wearing a giant cat mascot suit everywhere. And well, that’s bound to colour your impression of a person.
We just got the set up during this episode but I figure a lot of shenanigans and funny little misunderstandings are going to abound!

One of the characters I am having the most trouble with at this point is Saku’s handsome supervisor. I just don’t now what to make of him or where he fits in. I’m not a huge fan of romance so I would much prefer for the story to remain little funny vignettes about a girl and her giant cat. But I will admit, that line about no man wanting to take advantage of her surrounded by garbage was funny. Funny and kind of spicy compared to the rest of the show. I’m guessing this is one that’s supposed to go over the kids’ heads?…
I’m trying to write as if I don’t know what’s coming up. And so in that vein, what the heck is with this idol show at an aquarium invite? I mean it does sound cool, I would want to go but that came out of left field, no?
It was worth it just to see Yukichi’s stricken reaction! Now that’s a fan!

I’ve heard from multiple sources now that the animation’s calmed down. Maybe I should try again? I do so like the screenshots (though some are simultaneoulsy pretty and threatening photosensitivity overload…). Aw man, I’d so love to watch this. Maybe I’ll try again, skipping episode 1.
You can definitely pick up at episode 2 and I do think it’s a lot calmer. Man I really hope you can handle it cause I think you’d like this show. It’s just sweet and so very odd at the same time.
I just watched episode 2. I was mostly fine; though some scenes were threatening they were usually over before I’d get seriously unwell. I adore the show, so I’ll tough it out. Our leads have great chemistry, and I like all the side-characters, too. I hope it stays managable. I do have to skip the opening, but that’s not that much of a problem.
I’m soooo relieved I can watch this. It’s just so fun.
Yes, this is such a comfy anime with so many cute moments! I love that Yukichi might be huge, but still has the personality of a cat. He does things because he must, but of course he still resents it a bit. That kitty slap was awesome! I’m glad my cat isn’t that big, I think her kitty slaps might be painful!
Your cat sounds like she knows how to put the law down
