I was on vacation for the past two weeks and although I had every intention of keeping up with my seasonal reviews, I simply couldn’t figure out a way to get the screencaps I wanted where I was or the gifs for the header. I tried to write a BSD review and it just wasn’t the same so I decided to wait and play a bit of catchup.
Thankfully, The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again also took a little vacation so in this case, I can relax and do my usual thing. Here are all the screencaps!!!

For some reason, I really enjoyed Saku’s anxious daydream about potential marriage. Knowing that there is way more pressure in Japan to get married when you’re a woman, there was something almost liberating about Saku not wanting to give up or even share Yukichi and being way more worried about losing her cat than some potential guy. I feel you on that one! I can say for a fact that in most of the relationships I have been in, I would definitely have dumped my partner before getting rid of a pet.
And that’s even without having my pet prepare gourmet food and clean the house. Honestly, if I was Saku, I would be a fully committed very merry spinstress! also love that Yukichi once again shows the proper reaction for a cat, as in absolutely zero loyalty. Look, we serve at our cats’ pleasure and that’s just the way that goes!

I think this episode was much better about having the stories flow into each other. Technically, I think there were four or five separate vignettes but they all connected together in a surprisingly effective way. I think I prefer this style then the abrupt changing of one short story to the other. Not sure though as both have a certain charm.
If any of you have been around this blog for a while, you might already know that I am an absolute coward. I would also definitely not be able to go to sleep if I saw a scary ghost show. I would love to pretend that I’m not embarrassed about it or anything but part of me kind of is. I have given myself the “You are an adult” speech just like Saku, more times than I care to admit. And once again, I wish I had a gigantic cat with me in those circumstances. Not so much to protect me as even a coward such as myself wouldn’t let my cat get into a dangerous ghost situation on my behalf, but there’s something about having someone to protect that just makes you braver, isn’t there? And it doesn’t hurt if that someone could crush the ghost with a simple paw swipe in a pinch. I’m a pragmatic coward.

The ongoing joke about Yukichi being deeply uncat-like and how odd it is whenever he does anything traditionally catty, is one of my favourite aspects of the show. I still love that image of him smoking his catnip while reading the paper. So this sequence was right up my alley.
I’m sure that you all know this already. The thing about YOUR pet being the cutest pet no matter what. But in case you’ve never had one I can vouch that it is true. It does not matter if your animal is overweight or a little homely or balding in spots, to you, they will be the very embodiment of cute and nothing can change that.
I have to say, I think I might be ready to get a dog again. I really miss having one around the house.

I have never stained my walls. However, if they have the equivalent of that tearaway wallpaper for surfaces, like tables or counters, I would like to purchase some right now. I am not all that skilled at it but I do enjoy cooking a lot AND I’m pretty clumsy so, you know… Of course, choice no 1 is still giant housekeeping cat but if that’s really not an option…
Masterful Cat is one of those relax and wash-the-week-away shows. And even though I am just back from vacation, I needed that as getting back to the grind can be tough. I’m actually looking forward to going back to my routine again and watching the next episode of The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today.

Heh, Saku imagining a traditional marriage rather than a western styled one feels more centred on Yukichi than on herself. It fits surpringly well. (I had fun this episode, and I’m reminded that the new episode is already out and I still have to watch it.)
Those teeth are scary.
OMG, I loved the part when Saku asks Yukichi if he’d leave her for someone with more money and he gave her a thumbs up! I totally started cracking up. My cat would be the same way. She’s loyal to whoever is currently feeding her at the moment.
