I wasn’t expecting a romantic episode from this show. And say what you will but I thought it was very romantic. Honestly, putting in an effort to give a sincere and kind rejection to someone is a boss move. It’s really great and I will forever appreciate people who can do that. It’s not that easy.
Shun was a good choice as the character to follow for this type of story. Mima and Motoharu are both adults and I’m not sure why I am saying this, but they would probably handle a situation like this swiftly and maturely without much drama. Great for the girl but bad for us the audience.
And from this episode, I guess Souma would just try it out. But if I hadn’t seen that, I would still assume that Souma is used to this kind of thing. He has a lot of female friends and goes to a design school. I just have to figure he’s been asked out a lot.
So like I said, that leaves clumsy Shun as a pretty solid choice. He’s the youngest too so that moves the story to a high school setting. Obviously, this type of story needs to be in a high school setting. This said I would have loved to see how Hayase handles this type of situation. He’s the shyest and most prone to panic. On top of it all, we’ve learned that he’s never even been asked out before. I bet that would have been a major meltdown. I think he’s the only one of the guys that dosen’t have a close female friend also. Mima has that co-worker he’s always with, Souma’s best friend at school is a girl, Motoharu has his editor and Shun has his sister. She counts. The closest thing Hayase has is also Shun’s sister since she’s his boss but he’s the newest employee. There hasn’t been enough time there to build much of a rapport.
I’m saying Hayase would have been a disaster in this episode and it might have been fun to watch!
