Play it Cool, Guys is halfway through already. I’m quite happy that it turned out to be a 24-episode season. For a while there it was unannounced. I feel like that guys are just hitting their stride and I look forward to what Igarashi will bring to the dynamic!
The second half of the season means we get a new OP and ED. I like both of them quite a bit. They make the show look way more serious than it is. It’s a trope I enjoy. The OP also looks a bit like the beginning of an Otome game so they are really tapping into their target audience with me.
This episode of Play It Cool, Guys was much more involved than what we have seen so far. There was an actual plot, with follow-through and everything. And it was also quite sentimental. What can I say, I just thought it was a really cute episode. Sure I’m a sucker for the childhood friend trope but in a show that’s all about nice guys being nice together, you really should have at least one childhood friend. It was a glaring omission.
I notice that Mima’s episodes tend to be the most sentimental. The one where he was babysitting his niece for the day was also quite sweet and made me awww a few times. The one with the small animal caféwas also great but that could have been because of the small animal café. And this heartfelt almost reunion was completely endearing and just what I needed to round off my evening and send me to bed with happy thoughts.
The fact that Igarashi has been added as a pretty important presence in both the OP and ED makes me think that he’s going to have a continued role in the rest of the episodes. I think we’re due for one that brings the whole cast together at the cafe again. That’s what I’m hoping for, for next week!
