This was the penultimate episode of Play it Cool, Guys! The season is winding down already.
A show like this ggives you very little sense of time. At least for me. Both characters and action just kind of lazily meanders and a late season episode can very well be swapped with one of the first without anyone noticing. It was a bit of a shock when I saw that the show was almost over. I guess I should go back to the manga now.

Even though Play it Cool, Guys is one of the most aimless Slice of Life anime I have watched, there was actually a lot of follow-through this week. For Souma at least. I think he got the most consistent arc of the season.
Throughout the entire series, we’ve been watching Souma gently struggle with his professional ambitions and aspirations. And in that time he’s come to realize that he does in fact really love design and designing elements for other people. He also got the push he needed to really give it his all and try things out from Motoharu.
And this week, it sort of came together. We found out that during summer break Souma has been taking on independent design contracts and he is currently working on an album cover for his friend. He actively seeks out Mima’s advice since Mima is in advertising and can give him a critique of design from a markeing standpoint. Look at that little go-getter! I’m very impressed.
The growth moment this week came from the realization that no matter how much effort he puts into his designs, there is always a chance that the client will simply not like them. That’s the thing with an artistic product like this, there is no objectively good or bad. Or at least there is less of an obvious line. So you have to get used to dealing with murky feedback and unexplained rejections. I think the fact that Souma is already thinking about those aspects is bound to really help him out down the line.
And all of it together marks some pretty great character growth. I was expecting it from a show like Play it Cool, Guys. Let’s see what the finale has for us!

I’m going to miss those dorks. This was a beach episode, and it was pretty much the same the show has always been. One more episode then?
Tonight is the last one. I wonder if they’ll do a big action finale
I may put this on a reserve list. As a season goes n, I’ll start dropping those series that just aren’t doing it for me. That leaves slots open and I can pull from my reserve to fill them.
It’s probably not for everyone. I can see this show being called boring but it’s also really relaxing
