Sea urchin cat was the cutest. I want one like that now! And it’s such a quintessential cat thing to do. Ball up until you’re nothing but a big sphere. Even the relatively simple animation of Play it Cool, Guys captured it perfectly!

Even though Motoharu was introduced a while ago, he’s always felt more or less like an extra up until now. He was a side character in a few episodes but no one has much of a connection to him. Not in the sense that any of the main characters would go hang out with him like they do with each other. All that changed this week.
It was fun and a little surprising to see that Mima was even more apathetic as a kid. In fact, I’d say he’s mostly grown out of it and is more just plain unexpressive now. But as a child, he was actually pretty much uninterested in anything other than books and yet still made tons of friends easily.
I’ve known kids like that. They’re the kind of neutral kid that always seems to be a little annoyed at having to participate but they still join in and talk to everyone. Because they have this sort of neutral quality, everyone considers them a friend to some degree and they end up being one of the most popular kids in school.
All the guys are cool in spite of being complete dorks but I would say that all of them try up to a certain point. They mostly fail but still. However, Mima doesn’t care at all. I’m not even sure he’s ever considered coolness in any way. He never gets embarrassed, he never tries too hard and apparently, he never did.
And this is why he’s a good foil for Motoharu. He also doesn’t care about coolness and unlike the other guys, he’s the distracted genius type. So he was also always cool. But he’s passionate about everything. He gets hyper-focused on ideas and the imaginary worlds he creates. So when that gets a sincere reaction from Mima, you can feel the camaraderie between the two.
But mostly, the cat was super cute!

Heh, yeah, loved the cat. I wonder why it’s called Uni…. (Heh.) Fun thing is, I’ve known a cat like that. It’s so utterly on point. (The cat lived on a farm.)
And child Mima was adorable. We’ve seen him before, that’s the first time I fully noticed.
