This time, I’m not the Girl Genius being referred to…. I’ll let myself out.
I don’t want to say that the best thing about Mondays is discovering a great new webcomic. But I’m not gonna stop you from thinking it… I mean, it’s not like Monday is that full of awesome things. Ask Garfield!
So welcome to my new feature! Every week, I plan to tell you guys about a webcomic I am enjoying so that maybe some of you will discover a story you like. For now, I plan to concentrate on webcomics that are posted by the author and as such completely legal to read for free over the internet.n I may eventually venture into scanslations or pay to read comics if I think something is really worth it but I wanted to give you guys some options that are easy to find and accessible to all. Since a lot of us are still spending a lot of time indoors, it’s a good time to expand our libraries a little with some new reading material.

One of the most awesome things that has happened after I started making these little webcomic recommendations, is that readers made recommendations right back at me. I love that. Not only for the simple fact that discovering great webcomics is just a treat but also because I can then share them with you if I think some of you might like them.
Now I’m not sure if this was recommended because I once said that we need more cute girl mad scientists, or simply because it’s a great time. Either way, super recommendation, thank you very much. I have enjoyed Girl Genius a lot so far. You might enjoy it too, see for yourself right here!

Girl Genius has a sort of classic comic aesthetic and a very pronounced steampunk sensibility. Two things that are completely in my wheelhouse. Oh and a rockin heroine in Agatha. I like those too. I think it’s the first time I ever described anything as rockin. This comic is doing all sorts of things to me.
Girl Genius has been ongoing for well over a decade so if you are discovering it for the first time, you have plenty of material to go over. Discover adventure, romance and mad science! I have not yet finished what’s available but I made a good dent in it. It’s still entirely free to read right over here!

The comic also has a bit of award pedigree. Throughout the years it has been nominated for several Hugo, Eisner and WCCA awards and won a few. Including the Hugo for Best graphic story. I know awards don’t really mean that much, but I still think it’s great to see webcomics getting recognized.
So there you have it. Girl Genius is an often funny celebration of the wonder of science. And quite frankly, we need more of those. Science is the way we have chosen to call magic outside of fiction and I think it»’s sad that we don’t celebrate it as such.

How about Narbonic?
And Digger!
Interesting. I’ll have to look into it
A superb comic. I’ve been reading it for years now. The whole thing is available for free online, but it’s worth buying the books as well. When I was teaching, I used a quote from the comic as my .sig:
Students, remember!
Somewhere out there is your future arch-nemesis, studying hard.
Don’t make things easy for him.
Great quote!
That looks really cool! Thanks for the direct link 😍
My pleasure!
OOh if Steam Punk Month wins the poll for my Theme Month I might take a crack at this! It looks pretty amazing!
It would be fitting. Although it’s kind of pseudo steam punk but only the purists will be able to tell
Ooh, you got to it much quicker than I thought, and if you’re already in Paris, you’ve gone quite far, too. I recommended it, because I was pretty sure you’d have fun with it. I find the art so adorable and cheerful; there’s a lot going on in the backgrounds, too, and I just love the characters.
I tend to just fall into webtoons and go on binges. I did indeed have fun with it. If you have any other suggestions, keep them coming!
This looks plenty interesting!
I think it is!
