Anime Winter 2019 – Week 3 Roundup!

So last Friday I got a bit tipsy before writing this post and you guys just ate it up. I have never had such a wonderful reaction to my questionable behaviour before. I loved it. I wish I could uck you guys in my pocket and carry you everywhere with me!

I really wanted to reproduce the experience this week for you guys but I’m on the butt end of a 71 hour work week (I know it’s not much by some standards but I’m not use to it) and I’m actually too exhausted to get drunk. That may be the saddest thing I’ve ever written.

But despair not my lovelies! Tired Irina is possibly even less coherent than drunk Irina so all is not lost! Also I do have a little carafe of sake next to me so you, let’s just see what happens! In the meantime, I have some fantastic posts for you. This is what people watched and reviewed on week 3 of the winter 2019 season!

Bermuda Triangle – Colorful Pastrale

  • Oh no – couldn’t find any…I guess this is the end of pastrale… 🙁

Hmm – this wasn’t that bad. I guess these episode reviews drop off pretty fast. Except for The Promised Neverland, that’s still going on strong! I don’t blame you, there’s so much to discuss in that show and I love reading about it so as far as I’m concerned it’s wi-win- WIN!

is this just the calm before the storm?

I'm much nicer than I seem, we should be friends!

Actually, I fully intend to catch up on Bermuda Triangle, ENDRO!, and W’z, and have been meaning to review Wataten. Sadly, between my two jobs, I work about 70 or so hours every week, so sleep sometimes takes priority to blogging. And eating. And probably even breathing (but apparently not for very long). You see how I had to lump eps 2 & 3 together for Pastel Memories, and I haven’t yet posted at all for The Magnificent Kotobuki, something I’m VERY eager to discuss. . .

I understand your pain – I’m working through the weekend without a break. Not getting much sleep either, but at least it’s more money for me.

Yikes! 71 hours is a _lot_! I hope things settle down for you soon!

As Karandi, Scott, Mallow, and others have pointed out, it’s interesting to see the number of review constrict for some of the shows. It’s also interesting to see some shows, like The Magnificent Kotobuki, don’t seem to be getting any reviews at all! I’ve only seen one review for its first episode, and that was this week (three episodes in!) on Season 1 Episode 1.

Great work on compiling this — now three weeks in a row! I think this is a great resource!

Aww, poor Colourful Pastrale. I’m still watching the show, so… I can sort of guess why the reviews are dropping off this rapidly.

    • Irina says:

This is turning into a Pastrale roast

      • Dawnstorm says:

I actually do feel bad for the show. It’s one of those shows you can’t in good conscience call good. It’s set in a Mermaid town, and everyone swims around, but they have paved roads. They pour drinks in the towns bars, and they land in the glass in a stream, etc. The art is strange; the eyes remind me of painted onigiri, for example. As far as CGDCT go, the show is bog-standard. which means not bad at least, and I do really like the colour designs.

As a bundle, though, it has charm that’s impossible to place, because it doesn’t come from any of its ingredients. I just feel a couple of nice people do their best to make a nice show, and it’s infectious. I don’t want to roast the show; it’s just easier to do than the opposite.

  5. Karandi says:

It usually happens because lots of people start covering a lot of things and then choose a smaller watch list. Only the couple of super popular shows will be everywhere and then there will be those who cover cute girl shows, those who do action, those who like dramas and everything gets covered but only by a smaller number of people.

    • Irina says:

There is a lot of cute girl this season, I’m not sure anyone will be up for covering all of them

      • Karandi says:

There definitely were a lot of cute girl shows. There were quite a few first episodes I ended up just skipping because I kind of knew they weren’t going to be my thing.

  6. Scott says:

I hope you get some rest next week, Irina!

These trends are very interesting. I’ve never seen it spelled out like this.

    • Irina says:

I have to say, By now I’m doing these posts as much out of personal curiosity as anything else.

      Thanks Scott!

  7. Mallow says:

As you suspected, epi reviews have dropped. Still some interesting blogs to check out. Also have a good rest Irina!.

    • Irina says:

I appreciate that it gives me less work to do – but it is a bit sad seeing people’s interest dwindle

Leave me a comment and make my day!
