Genre : Slice of life, 4 panel, ho yay, comedy
- Episodes: 13
- Studio: Asahi Production
A quiet young man who lives by himself comes across a beached and seemingly injured merman and decides to bring him back to his house and let him recover in his bathtub. Odd couple antics transpire.
OK, right off the bat, this isn’t for everyone. It’s clearly aimed at a pretty boy enthusiasts and pretty much entirely made up of fan service. But it’s also really cute, often funny and oddly touching.

The show is based on a 4 panel comic so it consists of generally unrelated very short skits, often relying on sight gags or absurdist humor. The art is fittingly adorable and the animation is minimal but perfectly suited to the serie’s needs. There isn’t a whole lot of variety here, the episodes usually consist of Wakasa doing something silly or stupid due to his lack of understanding of the human world and general bubbly airheadedness and Tatsumi being exasperated and fixing everything. Pretty much all the action takes place in Tatsumi’s bachelor pad bathroom so don’t expec elaoborate backgrounds either. They do introduce a limited cast of other fun sea creature men (see how I avoided that low hanging fruit – are you proud of me?) but for the most part we stick to our two main heroes and their tiny adventures in their pocket universe.

Although, if it’s epic you want! The intro is amazing. I actually have nothing else to say about it – it’s amazing. I binged the show and watched it every single time. I really really want to see a separate show just based on the intro

This is a tiny review for a itty-bitty show. With each episode being just under 3.5 minutes long (4 including the intro – yes I watched that intro ever 3.5 minutes – that’s how much I loved it) the entire series clocks in at less then 45 minutes or a little less than 2 standard anime episodes. As such these make for great palate cleansers between episodes of more serious or heavy shows, when you just need something silly and generally insignificant to lighten the mood.

Favorite character: Wakasa – guess why!
What this anime taught me about myself: My bathtime is missing something
“and then alcohol said – Put that on Facebook, it’s hilarious. But alcohol was wrong. So very wrong.”
Suggested drink: The merman – unsubtle but so is this show
- Every time Kasumi trows a fit – take a sip
- Every time Maki goes postal – take a *little* sip
- Every time the ho yay – fan yourself
- Every time Tatsumi blushes – squeal then drink
- Every time Mikui shocks someone – take a sip
- Every time Wakasa gets paranoid about Tatsumi – take a sip
- Every time someone breaks the fourth wall – take a sip
- Every time Wakasa invites Tatsumi to share a bath – accept for him
- Every time Takasu causes trouble – take a sip
Despite how I usually feel about comedy anime and short anime, this one was kind of adorable. It was pretty forgettable too, given I hadn’t thought about it after I finished watching it until I read this. But I do remember having quite a lot of fun when I binged it.
I think back to that intro…it really made a mark on me…
