At some point, excitement hits a point of diminishing returns. Any good narrative needs to know when to take a little break and give the audience a chance to breathe. Or else, little by little, consequences start to loose their impact and you risk making viewers Jared and too exhausted to care.

The Forgotten Charms of the Fandub
English versions of anime have gotten exponentially better over the past few years. The quality of English language voice acting is almost incomparable to what it was, making it possible to watch dubbed anime without loosing anything in the experience. The difference is really remarkable. Similarly, subtitles have come a long way. Sure, you still…
Finish Line – Uma Musume Pretty Derby Ep 13 (with Cactus Matt)
Cactus Matt and I wrap up our joint watch of Uma Musume Pretty Derby. Apparently he’s sti talking to me…I’m as amazed as you guys are! Also this week TWIST: I’m in bold! Keeping you guys on your toes.
MEGALOBOX Ep 11 – Second Wind
Genre : Cyberpunk, Sports!, action, cool Studio: TMS Entertainment Last episode ended on possibly the best cliffhanger we’ve seen from Megalo box (I’ve been hanging off cliffs all season…) and I was genuinely curious to see what Joe would do. He’s still essentially a brick, by that I mean a narrative foundation with no significant…
A Record of Grancrest War Ep 23 – David and Goliath
Genre : Fantasy, Adventure, action, political Studio: A-1 Pictures I had to actually look up how many episodes A Record of Grancrest War is slotted for because I cannot see how they are going to just wrap things up next week. Admittedly it wouldn’t be out of character for this series to just stop mid…
Steins;Gate 0 Ep 10 – Space Time Oddity
I think I may finally have gotten that filler episode I’ve been clamoring for. Steins;Gate 0 took a deep breath this week and just sort of chilled. We didn’t get any major revelations or action sequences, instead the show took a little time to indulge in some silliness, some light-hearted humour and some dubious fan…
Getting Ready to Sue – Top 5 Anime Characters That Are Clearly Based on Me
For some time now, I have been living with the uncomfortable reality that my house is clearly bugged and anime producers have been stealing my identity to create their characters…well their less interesting supporting characters….but still. To this day, I have yet to see a penny in residuals. That’s not how residuals work you say? That’s…
Is Binge Eating the New Nose Bleed
I don’t mean that literally. Although it would be hilarious to have a character immediately wolf down everything is sight whenever they find someone attractive! What I mean is, has it replaced the latter as the anime trope standard? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a good nose bleed gag. I remember the…
Red Data Girl – I got nothing
Genre: Supernatural, drama, adventure romance? Episodes: 12 Studio: P.A.Works Izumiko Suzuharais just a normal teenage girl…Or is she?? Well actually, yeah, she is. She’s at that age trying to figure out who she is, shy and insecure, going to a school far from home for the first time. She’s really a girl just like…
MEGALOBOX Ep 10 – Once a Scoundrel
Genre : Cyberpunk, Sports!, action, cool Studio: TMS Entertainment The last few episodes of Megalobox really renewed my interest in the series. I was truly looking forward to this week and the resolution of that cliffhanger ending with the mob guy that looks like he could be a decent boxer too. I wasn’t too sure…
A Record of Grancrest War Ep 22 – Concern
Genre : Fantasy, Adventure, action, political Studio: A-1 Pictures I don’t know guys, the last few episodes have highlighted the frustrating inconsistency and disregard for plot integrity that have plagued A Record of Grancrest War throughout the season. And this one is no better. Although it did have it’s moments it did seem like a…
Steins;Gate 0 Ep 9 – The Comfort of a Familiar Ache
At this point in my life, I’ve made my peace with the fact that I’m John Snow… I know nothing. I’ve read a few reviews for Steins;Gate 0 that accuse it of being very poorly written drivel relying entirely on nostalgia. That may be true, after all, what do I know? All I can say…
Questionable Priorities
In a perfect world, anime would be all things. It would be beautiful to look at and mesmerizing to listen to. It would be deep, meaningful and incisive while relaxing and escapist and of course always interesting. It would be attractive but not creepy and just the right type of funny. In a perfect world…
Top Five Voice Actors in My Harem
We all love a good vice actor right? (Typo and it stays!) They are a huge part of any anime. Do you guys also secretly want to be voice actors? Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like the blogs I read tend to go on much more about women seiyuus than men. I’m not…
Don’t call it a comeback – Uma Musume Pretty Derby Ep 11 (with Cactus Matt)
Cactus Matt and I are continuing our joint watch of Uma Musume Pretty Derby. I’m beginning to think we are going to make it to the end of the season! As usual Matt is in Bold!
