The Devil is a Part-Timer! 2 Episode 3 – Still Neutral

This post is what it says on the tin. Here we are three episodes into the second season of The Devil is a Part-Timer and I find myself almost completely neutral. I don’t hate it, I don’t love it, it’s just a show that’s there. And now I realize that it’s going to be very difficult to create a whole post around that…

I don’t want to just be overly negative. Besides, it’s not like the show is bad enough to just have me rag on it for an entire post. So instead, I’m going to concentrate on the things I liked about episode three. So if I don’t mention it, I either had no feelings about it or was slightly annoyed by it. Let’s just say tsunderes aren’t my thing.

Before we get into it though, I was to make a couple of disclaimers. For some reason, I had a very tough time focusing on the episode. The first few minutes were really in one ear and out the other. I had to replay quite a few scenes because they just didn’t register at all. I’m not blaming the show for this. But I think it probably had an effect on my enjoyment.

Also, I am rather convinced that I would like this show a lot more as a binge Something in the pacing makes it so that I don’t really get into it until the end of the episode and if I have to wait for a whole week to continue the story, I lose all momentum and have to start all over again. Just like my previous point, this is not the show’s fault but it does have an impact on my viewing.

Ok, so n to the good stuff. I still like the white-haired lady. I enjoy it whenever she pops up and the mystery she invokes is so far the most interesting part of the season for me. and she continues to give me sailor moon vibes. If she transforms into a cat at some point I will eat my words and call this season brilliant. Although I would also settle for her being the grown-up version of Alas having come back from the future to wreak havoc. A la Dark Lady!

I won’t be holding my breath though. My actual predictions are that she’s either a new character which would be a tiny bit disappointing but way better than my second prediction which is that she’s the angel that saved Satan. I think that twist might be a bit too cheesy even for me but the two characters really looked alike in my opinion. Maybe they actually said it during the episode and I just didn’t pick up on it.

I like the weird convoluted story about Alas being the reincarnation of a tree or something. I know I’m making it sound like I’m mocking the lore (and it is a little silly let’s be honest) but I do honestly enjoy this type of storytelling from time to time. It feels like Norse mythology.

I’m not quite sure what to think of Gabriel. He could go either way. I guess his goofy persona might make him an interesting antagonist but it could just as easily get grating. Time will have to tell on this one.
