Draluc is the ancient powerful vampire progenitor. And as a refined higher vampire, he enjoys the company of humans. He believes them to be lovely creatures that need to be protected. Actually, he might be the one who needs to be protected. He dies every 5 seconds. It’s actually harder to keep him alive. Also, a little mishap with the renowned vampire hunter Ronaldo has left him homeless so now he needs to find a new home for himself and his beloved pet armadillo. He might as well bunk with Ronaldo, the guy should take responsibility! This series of unfortunate events mark the start of a beautiful friendship. Just kidding, these two can hardly stand to be in the same room. Well, that’s not all that unusual for roommates after all.
I am slowly developing a bit of an expertise in anime vampires. It just sort of happened. I saw one new seasonal vampire anime that seemed sort of goofy. Then another and another and before I knew it, I was watching every new vampire anime that comes out. And enjoying them! Naturally, The Vampire Dies in No Time had to be on my watch list.

Production
The Vampire Dies in No Time is a skit comedy show. There’s not much grandstanding and the art is meant to be fun and easy to take in rather than impressive or intimidating. I originally thought the character designs were somewhat reminiscent of Kemono Jihen but The Vampire Dies in no Time is more cutesy.
The production is solid though. Simple character designs are easier to keep consistent and the bright colours are fun. I have to give a big hand to the voice cast. They sounded like they were having a blast voicing this show and that helps a lot. A special appreciation goes to the vampire characters that were particularly hamming it up. If you watch this show in English, Draluc has a hilarious “vampire” accent, like the Count in Sesame Street, and it made me smile.

Story & Characters
aww, man how do I review this? Ok, so aside from the basic premise, The Vampire Dies in no Time is really a series of short comedy sketches. Each episode has about three unrelated short stories and all of them are goofy absurdist punchlines. Possibly with the exception of how Draluc and John started living together. That was surprisingly touching.
The comedy itself is fairly low-brow. No high intellectual quipping here and there is a good amount of blue humour. The jokes are fast and some land better than others. I really can’t claim that it’s a smart show.
In short, if you are not a fan of this sort of silly comedy, you probably won’t like The Vampire Dies in no Time.

This said I had fun with it. Just mindless, lighthearted fun. In fact, I had more fun watching The Vampire Diesin no Time than I had in a long time with anime. And I don.t mean that this show was better than these other anime I have been watching lately. Heck, I’m willing to accept that it’s objectively worse.
The characters are sort of cliché and they really only get development in the service of passing jokes. Some of the jokes in question can be repetitive and they are the sort of juvenile humour I can imagine some of my friends just rolling their eyes at. You have to be in the right mindset and just have that sort of sense of humour to even enjoy the show in the first place. I understand all of that.
However subjectively, I had a great time with it. I got quite a few laughs and just generally watching an episode left me smiling and happy. The individual stories were paced well enough that I found myself interested in what was happening on screen, and then when what was happening inevitably devolved into guffaws, I laughed. I had an easy and uncomplicated relationship with The Vampire Diesin no Time which was a nice palate cleanser after heavier and more involved shows I had been watching.

There are a few things that are not subjective though. First is the OP which is great. The music is genuinely good and the OP animation sets the mood perfectly for the show. It’s one of those OPs I would put in a compilation. Second is John. John is best armadillo. There’s no debate or discussion to be had, that’s just the way it is. You can ask any character in the show, they will also tell you John is the best.
So even if you aren’t crazy about the rest of the show, you will get to see John and that makes it worth it.
It’s extremely unlikely that The Vampire Dies in no Time will get another season but if it does, I will happily watch it!

I save all my screencaps on my Pinterest and you can find more there if you are interested. But I still like to show you a few in the post. If you’re like me, screencaps are something that really helps you decide to watch an anime or not.

John The Armadillo rules all! 😀
Truer words
My hubby is “into” vampires. He is very into lowbrow humor. But I can’t find it to watch anywhere…. 🙁 we could use a laugh 😀
Oh man, I think you would have particularly liked John. It is on Funimation and it might not have made the jump to Crunchy (yet?)
I shall try to remember to keep an eye out for it. Since they merged (sigh) I dropped my Funi membership. This may have been a mistake…
Some jokes worked for me, some didn’t, and the worst just made me cringe. John, however, was great, and every scene he’s in is made better by that fact. (I thought the ED was a reverse 3000-Leagues-in-Search-of-Mother journey; not sure if that was a deliberate reference or if it just reminded me, but too many pieces just fit.)
I also really liked Jun Fukuyama as Draluc – perfectly in sync with the animation.
I don’t think I ever cringed but otherwise we had a pretty similar experience. I mean…John
I skipped this one when it first came out, I don’t even remember why, but now I’m thinking maybe I should give it a try. I do tend to like the slap stick kind of humor! Thanks for the heads up!
It was a fun little show.
