This time I called it a webtoon instead of a webcomic because it’s actually on Webtoons. As I’m writing this, last week’s recommendation on the fantastic Stand Still, Stay Silent hasn’t yet been published, so I hope it wasn’t a complete flop cause here comes one more. In any case, I’m sure some of you will appreciate Sweet Home.
For those that missed the spiel last week, this is my new feature! Every week, I plan to tell you guys about a webcomic I am enjoying so that maybe some of you will discover a story you like. For now, I plan to concentrate on webcomics that are posted by the author and as such completely legal to read for free over the internet.n I may eventually venture into scanslations or pay to read comics if I think something is really worth it but I wanted to give you guys some options that are easy to find and accessible to all. Since a lot of us are still spending a lot of time indoors, it’s a good time to expand our libraries a little with some new reading material.

Since we are still in the spooky season, this week I bring you a bonafide Horror/Thriller title with Sweet Home. This is a Korean title with a lot of the tropes and narrative flourishes that are common to manhwa. So if you like those, you are in for a treat. The original Korean comic completed earlier this year with 140 chapters. Sweet Home has one of the most intense character arcs I have seen in a while. It also pays tribute to some classic horror titles.
The story blends mundane but tragic drama with supernatural monsters to really put the characters through the wringer. It all starts with the type of accidents that happen every day and leaves people utterly devastated. Buth then it goes wild! Once again I really thought the art is beautiful on this one. You will notice that the artist chooses a specific sepia palette. This makes everything feel a bit bleaker and sort of old-timey. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a superficial reader and I tend to gravitate towards really nice art which has probably made me skip over some great series. But hey, visuals are important too.

I also chose Sweet Home because it has recently been licensed for adaptation as a live k-drama series. It should be available on Netflix next year. So if you’re the type who prefers to read the source first, here’s your chance!
The only downside I have for this one is that the English translation only has 14 free chapters available. Now I just switched to the French and then used a translator app for the rest. The ending is pretty amazing. I believe you can get more English chapters with coins or Fast Pass but I haven’t tried it. I’m not entirely sure exactly how much of the series has been translated into English. I’m hoping the Netflix announcement will encourage more translation though.

There is something of a classic horror feel to this tale. And by classic, I mean Edgar Allen Poe or Rappaccini’s Daughter sort of classical. It’s wistful and concerns itself more with the psychological devastation of grief and loneliness than the actual physical monsters that inhabit it. Well don’t get me wrong, the monsters are a big part but you know what I mean.
In any case, if my previous recommendation wasn’t to your liking or simply wasn’t horror enough for Halloween, I hope you give Sweet Home a try. And if you have read it, please let me know what you thought. I know the same author has another thriller series called Bastard that looks pretty. Apparently, it’s about a serial killer. I haven’t read it though so I can’t tell you anything about it.

Great review! Even I’ve read this story. Visit my blog to see my recommendations too. I would be very happy 😊 ❤️
Sounds good – I’ll be sure to do so
Thank you!! 😀
Ohhh man this was such a great webtoon. I’m not a fan of horror/action but this is a an exception. It was so good from beginning to end. The same author did another webtoon called “bastard” which was also exceptionally good. Both the webtoon had the perfect blend of creepy and suspense.
Thanks for the great review😊.
Glad you liked it
WEBTOONS?? YOU TALK ABOUT WEBTOONS NOW AHHHH
okay now that I have my screaming done Sweet Home is so good. You should check out Bastard, another series by the same author and artist. I also have other thriller recommendations that I think you might like that are in the same vein.
I mentioned Bastard. Seems people like it, I will check it out. I only started doing this last week! I’m glad you liked Sweet Home!
I love the sepia toned art, I am totally into old horror monsters, and I like K-drama so I might just have to finally break down and expand my horizons in this general direction…
I hope you like it
Lol me too. Visuals are important 😄 I have skipped good games with bad art.
Hey, you gotta pick them somehow
I know lol
I really like the art here.
It’s pretty cool!
Thanks for recommending these webcomic/webtoons as they are good yet many are not familiar with them.
This one is quite popular among webtoons and liked it as well.
Actually all chaptere have been officially translated and available on webtoon. Recently, webtoon platform do this thing where it puts finished work on paid mode(except for first few chapters ), one can still unlock one new chapter for free per day. Of course I read all of it for free as all chapters were available for free while it was ongoing (all ongoing works are free to read btw )
Author’s previous work “Bastard” is among my favourites webtoons so I will recommend you to check that as well. It was really good .
Sounds good. Thanks for the info
“I also chose Sweet Home because it has recently been licensed for adaptation as a live k-drama series. It should be available on Netflix next year”…Well, as you know I’m a real fan of K-drama’s so that is good news indeed.
You are right about the art for this one, it does look very nice! And well, combined with the storyline this sounds like my cup of tea! Great post! Thanks for sharing this one!😀
I do think you might like this one 😜
Always good seeing reviewers talk about lesser known content. Thank you!
My pleasure
This was the first Webtoon I ever read, it was amazing but the last chapter was very sad and abit rushed but I totally recommend it too.
Glad you enjoyed it
