Blogwarming Party!

You guys remember when I use to pretend to review anime? Yeah, me either…

Boys and girls, I need your help. I’ve been kicking around this idea for a project for some time now and I want your input.

Back when I started this little blog, in the olden days of last July, I was pretty lost in this brave new blogging world. I really would have appreciated some type of kiddie pool to get my toes wet before jumping in. I know now that you’re clearly all the bestest and undisputed sweethearts but at the time, it was a little scary.

Furthermore, I am lucky enough to have some free time and debatable priorities so I get the chance to read a lot of your posts and discover all sorts of new blogs. This is a privilege that precious few have and I’m sure we all end up missing out on wonderful content because we simply didn’t know it existed.

When you discover a great new blog

At this point, you might be wondering why I am babbling on about obvious stuff. Well, this is my idea: I basically want to put together a platform of sorts to help smaller and newer aniblogs join in the community.

Every month, I would like to feature a new blogger and help get their content out there for more people to enjoy and this is how I propose going about it:

I have arbitrarily decided that “new” means a blog that was created less than 2 months ago and “small” means one with less than 50 followers. I’m inviting any bloggers that fall into either category to submit a post they happen to be proud of here, or use my contact page. It doesn’t matter if it’s an old post or something that hasn’t been published yet. I will pick one and write a post on my own blog to promote it. These posts will go up on the last Friday of every month and stay pinned on my home page until the next one is published. That’s all. Simple right?

Very simple

So where do you come in? Essentially wherever you like.

Firstly, I would sincerely appreciate your thoughts on and suggestions for this venture. Don’t hesitate to tell me if you think it can be done better.

Secondly, I would be your best friend should you want to participate. So spread the word by sharing this post or writing your own. Share the chosen monthly posts on your own blogs (again you can use my posts, copy paste them if you want, or create your own). If you discover someone who you think should be featured, then you should urge them to sign up.

Finally, if you want to take part in the selection process and help me vet submissions, please let me know. More people being involved in this step will assure a more balanced selection and more interesting posts for everyone.

Like this but much less exciting!

Karandi, who you all know from 100 Word Anime, has very generously offered to help out with this. As she is such a force to be reckoned with, I am very grateful for her help and would like to thank her again.

I’ve also managed to blackmail convince Remy from The Lily Garden to pitch in. (Actually he offered right away – the man is made out of sunshine).

I was thinking of picking a first post for the end of November (the 24th), and I would consider any submission received before November 21st. Hopefully, I can get one before then…

I’m sorry guys, I don’t have a drinking game for this one but feel free to have a beer as you’re reading.

Thank you all,

I love the idea. I just started my blog about a week ago, and I’m quite intimidated by not having any connections in the blogging community. Thank you for being kind to us newbies. <3

  2. Tessa says:

I really like this concept! I wish there was something like this when I had started out. Really, starting can be so nerve wrecking and be intimidating.

  3. Gonzo-nyan says:

Got this blog from MoeGamer. Although my blog is from 2013 and has over 50 followers, I took a break from it for about 1-2 years. Now I’ve decided to come back to it!

  4. I know that the anime community is huge but never knew that there were this many bloggers since I only started a few months ago. Even though my blog isn’t exclusively anime, this is a wonderful idea! I wish you luck on your project~ :3

    Reblogged this on The Backloggers.

  6. Pete Davison says:

Lovely idea! I don’t really fit in to the categories described, but will certainly keep an eye on things with interest — and will welcome any anime types who are interested in Japanese games and visual novels with open arms into my comments too, of course 🙂

  7. Lovely idea. Would have appreciated this when I first started, but I was so lucky to be welcomed by so many kind and wonderful people. Good luck, new bloggers ^^

This is for all those new anibloggers out there who are in need of a little help to get introduced to the community!
Rin-san from I Drink and Read Anime had this BRILLIANT idea of setting up a forum to introduce anibloggers who’ve started up less than two months ago.
I still remember my first post, whose views(most of them at least) were given by me myself, haha! To avoid this, Rin-san has started a blogwarming party!

Anyway, if you fit into these criteria or would like to help spread the news to reach a wider audience, please do take some time to check out the original post (which is so much more well written than this haphazard stuff).

Hoping to see some great response!

  9. This is a wonderful idea! 🙂 You’re right, we do end up missing out on content (there’s so many blog posts), so something like this can be of great help!

  10. Rokutsu says:

Personally, I think this is a great idea and I’m glad to hear it. I’ve got a few friends to help me out with our Blog but I can only imagine how daunting it is to have a solo blog run on your own. I look forward to seeing this awesome community grow even more.

  11. shaddowcat99 says:

This is an awesome idea! (And I’m not just saying that because I’m one of those small blogs). I would definitely participate in this and enter my own posts. I’m sitting on something now till I have time to write it properly that was inspired by this month’s owl tour theme. Maybe I’ll write it and send it your way for this.

I would love to help with something like this and maybe I can in the future, but I’m barely keeping up with the community now. Still need to write my lovely blog post (I should have that out sometime this week finally). Keep spreading the love you receive! It makes all communities better!

  12. A. Jones says:

My blog is not in the running but this is an awesome idea!!! This is a great way to meet other folks and support each other’s stuff! My friends aren’t cool enough to watch anime so it’s awesome that you’re building a little community. I made sure to put it on all my social media.

    • Irina says:

I know that pain all too well. My own friends give me the exasperated sorry for me look everytime I try to talk anime…Thank you so much for your comment. But please don’t give me too much credit, the awesome community was already here!

  13. Reblogged this on Lesley's Anime and Manga Corner and commented:
I think this is a fantastic idea, and wanted to pass this along verbatim rather than trying to summarize it in my own words. What a wonderful way to help lift others up and help build more of a community among anime bloggers!

If any of my readers qualify for this, I would highly suggest applying to have your blog featured.

  14. This is a great idea and certainly one that would create a good sense of community bringing a lot of people together. I am always a big fan of that and willing to support it however I can if you would have me. I think a lot of us can remember just starting out and being glossed over potentially for a while before finally getting a more consistent viewer base. Anyways, I am looking forward to seeing what posts are highlighted and the new blood! 😀

  15. This is such a lovely and kinda idea! 🙂

  16. If there’s anything the Fullmetal Narcissist blog can do to help, let me know.

    • Irina says:

Huge thanks! For the moment I’m still in phase 1, seeing if people will even be interested in participating, so anyone who wants to spread the word is welcome to do so but eventually I’m going to need help reading through posts and selecting one.

  17. Keiko says:

This is a great idea! 🙂 I’ll definitely leave a link to this post on my blog to spread the word 🙂

  18. kingdylbag13 says:

This is the best idea ever, I put up a post on my blog about it. My blog has been up for a week or so so I’m in the running.

  19. DerekL says:

Less than a year old, and I’m no longer a newbie? Man, the internet moves *fast*. 🙂

Seriously, this is a great idea.

  20. Karandi says:

Reblogged this on 100WordAnime and commented:
We all know how hard starting a blog can be and so Irina over at I Drink and Watch Anime is looking to help out by highlighting new blogs each month. If you are a new ani-blogger, be sure to check out this post. If you are an old hand (more than two months – this is internet time we are talking about), spread the word.

  21. Oishi says:

    You really are so sweet.
I would be happy to help in anyway I can, and other than my exams in the last weeks of November, I’m free for the most part.

    • Irina says:

Oh that is awesome. I’ll give this post a few weeks to see if it can generate interest and I’ll drop you line to see if we can coordinate something!

  22. Remy Fool says:

Still think it’s really cool you’re doing this (and I’m happy to be a part of it).

    I’m excited about this project!!

  23. alfredopasta says:

This sounds like a fantastic idea!! I’ve been neglecting and just being plain lazy to find other smaller and interesting blog so this would be extremely helpful to both sides.

I’d be glad to talk about it on a blog post of mine 🙂

  24. Scott says:

Irina, you have just been too consistently too cool for words recently. This is such a great thing. I want to help if I can, but not sure how much time I have to dedicate to your cause. I feel like a bad person now…

    • Irina says:

No no… No bad people, everybody is so kind, this is why I think a project like this has a chance. It’s no big deal at all really, just a very simple little project.

Also the word you’re looking for is: tepid…

  25. Super neat idea and great way to get newbies and smaller blogs more exposure and more involved in the community!

I’m not sure how much I’d be able to help out, but I’d be happy to help out if you need it! 😀

  26. Ya Boy Jack says:

Great Idea. Since I am very crunched for time usually, I don’t think I will be able to help vet submissions. However, I will help promote this venture in whatever way I can.

  27. This is a marvellous idea. I’m glad to see people supporting their fellow bloggers like this 🙂

  28. crimson613 says:

I’d be up for helping out if you need it xD I used to post this thing on a biweekly basis where I shared intrresting stuff I read online. It wasn’t specific to new bloggers but I always tried to find something new for me. I stopped it when I disappeared for awhile but I’m brining it back soon on a monthly basis bc I cant do biweekly 😛 if I find anything i’ll def send them your way 👍👍👍

  29. This is a fantastic idea! I am just over the newness limit, but I would be glad to help spread the word! Let me know if I can help in any way!

  30. Auri says:

    Oh wow, that’s cool Rin-san!
I’ll try my best to spread the word, though it isn’t like I know ani-bloggers you don’t haha.
    Just a suggestion here-
Maybe along with posting their works, you could put together a team ready for a collab? Like if you get two entries, you could introduce them to each other or to someone on your team to work on a collab post, which could help them to join the community properly as well get to know each other better?
Sort of like community activities, I guess? *embarrassed*
Umm… yeah, I don’t really know how to put it…

Anyway, this is real great Rin-san! If I could be of any help, let me know as well!

  31. raistlin0903 says:

What an incredibly cool and very kind idea. In fact I think it is awesome 😀 Let me know if I can help in some way. As you know my blog is not an anime only blog but also has a lot of other content, but if I can help out with this in some way, I would be happy to offer it. (and you don’t even have to blackmail me 😂😂). As I said : terrific idea 😀

  32. What a lovely idea. I don’t know if I’ll participate, since I’m lazy and my writing isn’t all that great, but I’ll definitely check it out to see and follow the new blogs. ^.^

  33. Shokamoka says:

Aight I’m off to create a new blog…

    • Irina says:

You know, double the Shoka is nothing but a good thing!

      • Shokamoka says:

You know.. I wouldn’t hesitate to help if it isn’t for the time that I’m preparing for the move… 🙁
Do pitch it at me anyway I’ll see what I can do for my part, even if it’s little.

        • Irina says:

Where are you moving to? is it Montreal? You should move to Montreal!!

Thanks for the offer. At this point the only thing to do really is to get the word out so people who might be interested know it exists. If you wanna mention it on your blog at any point I would really appreciate it.
