Least favorite character
It took me for freakin ever to come up with an answer to this one. I almost gave up and was about to post a collection of pictures of my dog, but after running through almost every single character for the entire week, I finally came up with an answer. Yes, this show is so great that it took me an entire week to find a single character I don’t like.

Zazan is, the worst possible thing, boring. The entire concept of the chimera ants makes it possible to come up with some truly unique stuff and tons of varied designs. Sure, people tend to stick to certain basics because it’s easier to empathize and understand things we’re a little familiar with but at least they tried some unusual variations. Zazan’s design is just average. I’m not sure why but it seems like 9.5/10 times, creepy crawly things are anthropomorphized as women, more particularly “sexeh womens”. This is just another one of those and a blah one at that.

More frustratingly though, is that by the Chimera Ant arc, Hunter x Hunter had really hit its stride and was consistently creating good characters and engrossing storylines. It was getting very difficult to look away from the tv. When the idea of a rogue unit of brutally powerful and unyielding ants going up against the equally terrifying spiders came up, I figured this would be nothing short of epic. Spider vs Ant had all the markings of jaw-dropping interlude in what was already an incredibly tense arc. I was almost embarrassingly excited.

And for the most part, it delivered on the promise. We got to see the Spiders work together in a way we had not before. We also got a glimpse at Kalluto and his intriguing power. Most of the ants had potential and the fights were good if a little short. We even got to see the people of Meteor City interact with the Spiders, adding yet another layer to their increasingly complex story. After all that good stuff, we get saddled with a completely forgettable Big Bad and an anti-climatic end fight.

What should have been a remarkable mini arc was reduced to filler status because of Zazan. She would have been a completely unremarkable peon but as a queen she is utterly unacceptable!
