Oh my, things are getting heavy… By Bungo Stray Dog standards at least. And I’m not used to this show being heavy. I’m not sure how to take it. It’s throwing me all out of balance. I kind of love it…

So it has been hinted at since the beginning that Fukuchi has a greater plan. The thing is, I’m not sure what the characters in the show think that Fukuchi’s plan is. He has never actually made a thesis statement or anything so it’s not clear what the assumption is. Ranpo talked about world domination and I guess that is what some of the Detective Agency think but I don’t think we actually got Fukuzawa’s take on it. It’s kind of a quaintt motivation for a character as grand as Fukuchi.
The reaction of the Huntng Dogs is leaving me a bit confused. I realize that most of them didn’t really get a chance to know what the grand plan is but Teruko strikes me as the type to go with her honor. I don’t think she would be swayed that easily regardless of the front she puts up. She clearly doesn’t regard the Agency as terrorists or even antagonists at this point. Her treatment of Atsushi is probably not exactly what her boss would have wanted. On the other hand, she also doesn’t want to stop Fukuchi. And the implication is that it’s not fear or desperation, she actually thinks he might be in the right…
But see, I have always assumed that Fukuchi’s motivation is a sort of forced world peace. And I have also always assumed that this was clear from the start to everyone involved. But could this be a revelation?

For those of you who do not know, Fukuzawa is my favourite. Ok maybe Ranpo is my favourite… I have a lot of favourites. Fukuzawa is one of them. This sequence made me very unhappy. The worst part is, the show is pretty much caught up to the manga so I’m not going to know if he’s ok until potentially next season. We’re already at episode 9 of 11. No way are they wrapping everything up in two episodes… Unless it ends quite badly. In which case, I have to admit, it will definitely be a surprise!
So here is where we stand. The Decay of the Angel have a plan so devastating that it almost knocked out Atsushi’s will. And that’s a big deal cause the boy is too simple to give up most of the time. Both Ranpo and Dazai seem to have been outsmarted and half the Agency members are presumed dead. More than half. But, Ango is still out there, as is Aya and Poe all of which have been staunch allies to the Agency through all this. And Aya presumedly still has access to Bra-chan although their situation is quite tenuous as well. Kyouka is still out there, Atsushi is apparently free also as is Akiko who can really sway the balance. Finally, and most importantly, new best buddies Tecchou and Kenji are seeking out their friends! Kenji is my favourite! Along with Akiko…
Wouldn’t it be great if Kenji and Tecchou just come out of nowhere and save the day. I bet that Fukuchii forgot about them and that’s their ace in the hole! I want to see more of the Tecchou and Kenji show!

Well, when Dazai trapped them he basically said he did it to force Dostoyevsky to reveal his power, which… he didn’t. Heh.
What I love about this show is that every single character has their own motivation. At this point I wouldn’t be suprised if future Fukuchi plays past Fukuchi, because things won’t turn out like he wants to, but he also knows past Fukuchi isn’t ready yet to face this… (Because he’s basically trying to control things, which… he ultimately can’t.)
