It’s been a long and exhausting week. I’m very ready for the weekend. Oh, I’m going to a Japanese Street Food Fest tomorrow. I’ll tell you, guys, about it! Maybe I’ll take a few pictures. And then on Sunday, we’ll get a new Demon Slayer and that’s always exciting.
This week’s episode was pretty cool and we talk it over on Crow’s blog. I think you should go over, you’ll definitely like it!

Honestly, a fish demon is a really fun idea. And I have to admit just seeing little explosions of fish flopping around in the middle of the battle just added this wonderful flare of ridiculousness!
There was quite a bit of CG in this fight and not all of it worked. However, the nonsense of it all made me forgive it all.

Did you guys enjoy the mist effect? It’s a fairly simple effect but I think it was very visually striking. I enjoyed it a lot. It does make it very difficult to tell what exactly is going on which is probably why it isn’t used more. This said, I do hope to get to see it a little more.
I also really like the eyecatch. It’s just cute.

The contrast of the warm colours in Muichirou’s dreams(?) and the coolness of the real-world scenes really go a long way to conveying atmosphere and a feeling. Warm colours can become suffocating but you can see that these scenes remain airy despite all the gold light and red accents.

I talked about in more detail over on Crow’s blog but don’t you get very strong magical girl vibes from Kanroji’s fight choreography? I can’t quite explain it but as soon as I saw this scene all I could think of was, Sailor Moon, Sakura, even Madoka… And I’m not mad about it!

Please take lots of pictures of Matcha Zanmai’s mochi, so I can jealously drool on the other side of the planet…
And there’ll be a piano concert of Ghibli music on Sunday (I think) that’s the kind of event I’d love to go to…
Anyway enjoy the sake Irina!
Irina, Muichiro wondered aloud in this episode why he was in the zone, and I believe this is a further hint of essence theory. There should have been no reason for him to be in the zone given how he had recently been poisoned heavily, and that suggests he was channeling the essence of someone else who was no longer living, who wouldn’t be able to feel poison. Gaining markings on his face much like how Tanjiro’s scar grew to match Yoriichi’s when he was using Sun Breathing to the greatest extent showed that Muichiro likely channeled the essence of either the original Mist Breathing user or the strongest Mist Breathing user, probably whichever is stronger. Given that before Gyutaro’s death that no Upper Rank demon had been killed in 100 years, this suggests that demon slayers from over 100 years ago were stronger or more talented than the ones living in more recent times.
Before this, I wondered why there were essences of dead people in the story rather than straight up reincarnation, and I think I have an idea of why that is the case now. If I follow this line of thinking, maybe the people who became essences after they died rather than reincarnating truly believed that Muzan, and consequently, demons, could have been eliminated in their lifetimes, and this lingering belief prevented them from reincarnating because they had unfinished business. Maybe Genya can become a demon because he has the essence of a demon on the side of good like the small group of demons from Season 1.
Nice
