But what is family really. Can we simply limit it to the random luck of the genetic draw? Is someone who has been by your side since childhood, sharing in your pains, shouldering your anxieties and cheering on your victories, not worthy of the title? You already know I’m going to cheat, don’t you?

Best main character family member
This question is a bit limiting, isn’t it? I mean Gon only has one family member, that deadbeat Ging certainly doesn’t deserve to be called a dad. Mito is amazing, we all agree but I’ve talked about her before. Aside from that, we never find out much about Leo’s family and Kurapika… well….
So back to the Zoldyck clan I go. Except I’m jumping on this excuse to talk about one of my favorite secondary characters of all time, the magnificent miss Canary. Canary is one of the many impressive butlers employed by the Zoldyck family and just like all of them, she goes well beyond what the title would imply.

I’ll be honest, my initial fascination with the character and certainly part of her lasting appeal is that fantastic design. Canary is beautiful, one of the prettiest characters in the series but she’s also completely unique and a standout among anime characters at large. The sideshow Bob hair and stiff little butler uniform could easily have tuned clownish and ridiculous but have been brought together with such flair that you can’t help being awed by the sheer style of it all. Of course there’s also the undeniable fact that Canary is portrayed as a visible minority, something still way too unusual in anime. All in all, she manages to be attractive, striking and functional. One of my favorite character designs in general.

But behind that pretty face is a capable, deeply loyal and compassionate young lady we would all love to know. Having been born in the slums of Meteor city, Canary faced a life of crippling poverty or varying degrees of criminality. One can debate the legal implications of working for the Zoldyck but as far as she’s concerned they are lifesavers and she is certainly grateful. That gratefulness translates into single minded dedication to her duties and employers.yet Despite her difficult past and demanding post, she still has no trouble at all sympathizing with a lonely little boy who simply longs for a friend. It’s in this uncomplicated humanity that she truly shines.
A beautiful character inside and out who anyone would love to have as part of their family.

I’ve only seen a handful of episodes of hunter x hunter but I have to agree, Canary is very striking.
I would happily watch a Canary spinoff
I ain’t even gonna lie. I would too. LOL
