This year is bound to be better than the last, right? You know what, that’s just asking for trouble. No one knows what the future holds. But for us anime fans, this year is sure shaping up to be a great one! It was though to narrow down the anime I will be watching and reviewing next season.
At least for me. I know that whenever I go online there seem to be a ton of people complaining about anime, the shows, the industry, the other fans… But I have so many upcoming projects I am really psyched about. And it all starts with this winter season.
It’s been a good long while since I’ve truly wanted to see so many shows in a season. It’s a bit overwhelming. In a good way! I usually start from my certain hits to the ones I am more ambivalent about. Just to shake things up, let’s go the other way this time. Let’s start with my maybes.
These are shows that could be interesting. I’m going to wait and see what other fans have to say. I’m starting to get a good idea about my tastes relative to certain other reviewers so I can get an idea from them if I’m likely to enjoy a series or not.

World Witches Hasshin Shimasu!
Honestly, the only reason this caught my eye at all is that it’s a short. Low commitment is my jam! And it’s Sci-Fi which I find intriguing. There’s a good chance it won’t play on any platform I own.
Wonder Egg Priority
Weird title, cute key visuals. Colour me intrigued. But you need to give me a bit more..
Hortensia Saga
Fantasy is a pretty big Hit or Miss for me. When I like it – I adore it, when I don’t I find it an absolute chore. Again, might not play on anything I own…
Back Arrow
I’m intrigued by a lot of this. It’s an original anime. It’s an action series. The character designs seem cool. But why isn’t it picked up for streaming yet?
Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town?
I’ll be honest with you I have a bit of Isekai and Light Novel fatigue. I’m only watching re:Zero cause I watched the first part. I actually have the same feelings about Isekai as fantasy. When I click with it, I tend to really get into it, otherwise… However, this one has food as a genre. I love food!
Princess Principal: Crown Handler
I liked the series but I’m ok with not watching more of it. If this movie falls in my lap, I might give it a go.
Moving on to the probably. These are shows that will go on my plan to watch list but could drop off if what I hear about them doesn’t sound like something I would enjoy.

Cells at Work!!
It’s a very strong probably. I’m just confused about the fact that there seem to be 2 Cells at Work series airing in the same season and I’m not sure if I will be keeping both.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
I don’t really know anything about this series. But I tend to like NEETs and the key visuals looked pretty. So unless I can’t find it or someone tells me it’s horrible, why not try it?
Cells at Work! CODE BLACK
Pretty much same thing as for Cells at Work!! above.
SK8 the Infinity
It’s a sports anime and it seems full of pretty boys. It’s most likely going to get horrible reviews/ratings. I’m expecting that. If I can find it I’m most likely going to try it regardless of ratings, but I could also drop it in the first 10 minutes.
Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun
This is the second romance pick… I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Honestly, I really like the key visuals. And that’s a pretty big factor for me.
World Trigger 2
I do really want to watch this. I have in fact been meaning to watch the first season for a long time. However, since I haven’t watched it yet, there is a small chance I won’t enjoy it and will decide to not continue. It’s not a big chance but you never know.
Kemono Jihen
This looks really cool. It’s a mystery, urban fantasy and I really like the character designs. All big pluses. But I don’t know anything about it and it seems to start out with violence towards animals which is a minus. I’m torn…
Scar On The Praeter
Man, I hope this is good. The description makes it sound like it could go either way. I really like a good crime adventure story but only when done well, otherwise they usually end up super unpleasant. I hope this is good…
Dr. Ramune -Mysterious Disease Specialist-
The fact that this anime is classified as psychological has me curious. I also dig the designs. But I see how this could quickly become a lazy fanservice series.
These are my will binge after the season is over. I’m pretty sure that regardless of the reviews, these are series that I will watch, I’m simply waiting for the season to be over so I can enjoy them in one big gluttonous go!

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2
I really loved season 1 of this show. And I really loved binging it. This is the type of series that made my weeknight evenings just fly by and left me with a smile on my face. I can’t wait for spring, when I will actually watch it!
BEASTARS 2nd Season
If season 1 is anything to go by, Netflix will wait at least 6 months before releasing this in Canada for some mysterious reason. I will binge it then! I loved this series but even if I didn’t, the production value on BEASTARS makes it a must check out for me.
Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table
I only watched the first Log Horizon season a year ago so I haven’t been waiting as long as some other fans for this new season. I can wait a bit more to binge it!
2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu
I really like sports anime. Sooner or later, I always end up watching them. This may stay on my plan to watch for a while but I will watch it at some point. That’s almost a given.
Alice in Deadly School
A Supernatural comedy you say??? And with such a great title! This is giving me Zombieland Saga vibes. I’m going to try it!
Tenchi Souzou Design-bu
I was sold by the summary of this show even before I saw that AniList had it tagged with “Dinosaurs”. It’s not that I’m a huge dinosaur nerd or anything. I haven’t even watched all the Jurassic Park movies. But for some reason, I’m a huge anime dinosaur nerd. Also, I love comedies. So this one is for me.
Natsume Yuujinchou: Ishi Okoshi to Ayashiki Raihousha
I have not yet found the first Natsume Movie for my region but I will. I’m willing to buy a region free player entirely for that movie. Still, I heard it’s coming soon and when it does I will watch it. I’m going to watch this second movie as well. Just try and stop me! I just need to find it…
So I’m a Spider, So What?
This show has been on my radar for a while and I pretty much convinced myself I would like it based on very little. Look, it just sounds like fun. Also, I like spiders. Those are good reasons…
And these are the ones I will be watching as they air…because I’m reviewing them episodically. I actually review all the anime I watch but I only watch shows as they air when I also review them as they air. Please note that I tried to get all collabs this season and I succeeded!!!!!! So even though these are more anime than I usually review, It’s only half the work! Kinda…

The Promised Neverland Season 2
No big surprise here. I loved season 1 and I loved reviewing it with Crow. We really clicked on this one. So we will be back with a collaboration for season 2. I hope you guys enjoy it!
Dr. STONE: STONE WARS
This is rare for me but I’m actually reviewing Dr. Stone because I want to watch it as it airs, and not the other way around. Season 1 had some rocky moments but it got better and better as the season progressed and ended up being a show I really liked. And the more I look back on it, the more I like it. I don’t want to wait months to find out what happens! And I managed to guilt/trick/bribe Crow into reviewing it with me this time!
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 2 Part 2
I’m not the biggest fan of this series but Crow is, and I’m a big fan of Crow. I would have watched part 2 regardless since I watched part 1 but getting the chance to share that with Crow is what makes it worthwhile for me.
Horimiya
Yes it’s a romance series, yes I am going to watch it as it airs and yes I am really looking forward to it! Not only am I excited for the anime itself, I remember really liking the manga even though I don’t remember much of the story, but this will also be my first time reviewing a series with the lovely Moya! How much better can it get?
Otherside Picnic
I managed to convince K (from the movies) to do episode reviews with me. I’m not going to pass up the chance. And I,m hoping this is a series he would enjoy. For myself, I tend to like yuri so it’s a pretty safe bet.
there are a bunch of cool anime coming this way. I can’t wait..! Good luck with your schedule!!!
I hope we both find some great anime this season
How can you be so organized ? I’m still just picking out any anime from my list and watching it. Well, Good Luck in 2021, may you watch all the anime you want.
Thank you Harshit! That is the best wish I could hope for. And same to you
Nice list! Obviously I’ll be watching Re:Zero and Promised Neverland, and I’m actually curious about what Slime-san is going to be like in season 2. The trailers kinda hint at a darker vibe with more action. Though tbh, I still haven’t finished the last season of Haikyuu 😅
I adored the last season of Haikyuu.
Youth, talent, AND ambition. . .oh, but you can be scary! Happy New Year and happy viewing!
Same to you David!
You flatterer, you!
😉
I keep forgetting about what I’m gonna go watch next season besides Back Arrow and some sequels. This is why anilist is a good companion!
Agreed!
I really need to sit down and take a look at the line-up for the season. It seems like there’s a lot of strange and interesting stuff coming out.
2021 is looking to be an exciting anime year
Your list is 10% stuff I like, 10% stuff I don’t like, and 80% stuff I have never heard of! I’m jealous that you can watch anime so regularly.
Word of warning for Otherside Picnic: the LN is god-tier, but there’s pretty much no yuri for the first three volumes. The anime will likely end at volume three, so if you primarily care about yuri, then you might be disappointed.
Oh no – I love a good story even if there’s no Yuri. But thanks for the heads up!
Ooh, collaborations with new collaborators. Sounds like fun.
Season 1 of Dr. Stone had rocky moments? Maybe season 2 will have pebbly moments? Or bouldery moments? I mean it’s Dr. Stone… Sorry.
Really excited about Horimiya, too. I really enjoyed the 4 episode OVA a while back (I know very little about the manga).
The Starter Dungeon show is an isekai? I’m mildly looking forward to it, because I think the art is cute. That’s all.
I wish Spider had less CGI. Some of the camera movement in the previews are borderline dangerous. On the other hand… the main character’s voiced by Yuki Aoi, and it’s the kind of role (I’m guessing) that gets at least twice as fun with her behind it.
Isn’t World Witches a Strike Witches spin-off, or something? I sort of assumed so and ignored it.
Also, you really should watch World Trigger’s first season before the second one, though it’s probably possible to just jump in, as it’s a fairly typical shounen fighter, and what you don’t know you should be able to correctly guess. I watched nearly all of season 1 (dropping it once the anime-original filler started; I don’t know if there was manga content after that, which I should catch up on, but I’m probably going to watch season 2 anyway. I quite like the characters.)
I can’t remember if you watched season 2 of Log Horizon (I think you did?); you only mention season 1. Just in case: You really do need season 2 before season 3; it had really important developments.
Next season has al lot of sequels, and I’m going to watch quite a few of them:
Beastars
Re:Zero
Uma Musume
Yuru Camp
Neverland
Show by Rock
Cells at Work
Quintuplets
World Trigger
Non Non Biyori
Slime
Log Horizon
Orphen
And that’s not include movies or 1-2-episode OVAS. And I’m not even watching every sequel. I like my sequels a little more spread out (they probably would have been, if not for the virus).
I also wish Slime and Spider wouldn’t air in the same season. I’m still going to watch both as they air (and I’m hoping that Spider won’t give me motion sickness).
Most anticipated: Horimiya. Yay!
Most curious: Ura Isekai Picnic
I did watch season 2 of Log Horizon and I’m also currently on episode 52 of World Trigger. I started a few days ago and just sort of really fell into it. Season 2 has become a for sure watch now.
The big billing on Sk8 is the staff – it’s the Free director Hiroko Utsumi doing a series with lots of action with studio Bones, meaning gorgeous animation and *does the chef’s kiss gesture with one hand while typing with the other* good quality bois…At least, that’s what it should mean in practice. Lately, I’ve been buying anime magazines on Bookwalker (just 2 so far, both the latest – i.e. Dec. 2020 – issues) and the articles on Sk8 are all really colourful and hectic-looking, in comparison to, say, Skate-Leading Stars, which uses more simplicity and watercolours.
Likewise, the big (?) billing on Scar on the Praeter is studio GoHands, who also did K Project…but they also did Hand Shakers/W’z, so it could be hit-or-miss…
I’m not a big fan of Utsumi but that doesn’t mean anything. I’ll check it out eventually
