They are really stretching out Fushi and March’s eventual reunion. And I understand why. The inherent tension in the very idea of it is enough to keep me hooked for the next few episodes. I wonder if there’s a reason we haven’t heard March talk yet. We know that she did from the folks that took her in, but in scenes where she was actually onscreen, she never responded to anyone.
It’s probably meaningless but I’m curious if she sounds all weird and death metal-like. She is back from the dead after all. It’s wishful thinking, there is a 0% chance that this will be the case.
As I mentioned in the last post, the final moments of last week’s episode eclipsed everything that had happened up to that point. So it actually took me a second to get back in the spirit of the great battle that was about to take place.
It’s odd. I’ve rarely seen a fight scene where the protagonist was so thoroughly dominating and yet seemed to be losing the entire time. We all knew this was going to be difficult on Fushi. He clearly took on way too much. But seeing him struggle like this was unexpectedly unsettling.
It’s not as if we’ve never seen Fushi lose before. In fact, I still say he almost exclusively loses. But with the nature of his character, we’ve never really been confronted with Fushi’s physical limits. There was reason to believe that he didn’t have any. At least not in the sense that any of us could relate to. But this was definitely recognizable. Stress, exhaustion, that weird dizzy feeling you get when your pressure goes down. We’ve all felt it. I just never expected to see it in Fushi’s eyes.
We didn’t get to see much of March in this episode. We only got glimpses of her back for a brief moment at the very beginning. But whenever her presence was felt, I perked up. I’m desperate to see where this particular plot thread goes.
Fushi did feel her wake up. In fact, Fushi has been feeling everyone for a while now and just the thought of it is wearing me out. I’m not sure exactly what he can feel. As far as I can tell it’s just vague sensations of joy or pain or consciousness. He didn’t recognize March in any way, only that someone new was there.
But that also makes me think if March has her body back, does that mean Fushi has lost her as a vessel? Can he still turn into her and does he remember her at all? What if he forgets all about them when they revive. Bon will never have to tell him anything!
We all knew there was something not quite right with Kahaku, right? They’ve been making him subtly but increasingly creepy for weeks now. I’m not sure if it’s the nokker in his arm slowly taking over. Maybe his affection for Fushi is blinding him and making him more vulnerable. I can’t help but think that leaving him free is not a good idea.
I almost glossed over it. I predicted Messar would not survive the battle as soon as he was introduced. This is based on the ED of the show and pure speculation. I actually paid closer attention to it this week. It’s not conclusive. All of the characters we see in the ED are vessels but not all the vessels are there. Kai and Hylo were also there from the beginning and I had just missed them which matches up to what happened at the battle. But Eko is there as well. I don’t know how Fushi would react if he lost Eko.
And at the very end. We just see the edge of a character being led by Eko. That’s Bon, isn’t it. I,m gonna be sad about that. Not surprised mind, you. But it was Bon if full Tasty Peach princely regalia and I want to see that version of the character again, so it works out.
It was always too much to expect to have a war without casualties. And so far, it does seem as if the city’s standing and victory is possible. Things actually looked more promising to me at the end of the episode than a the beginning. Not sure if enraged bloodthirsty Fushi is in any way better than exhausted battle-weary Fushi but it feels more dynamic. I feel bad for the remaining nokkers.
But what I wanted to see, and what I hope to see next week, is March catch-up to Fu.
