I drink and watch anime

This year’s Search Terms were… Unexpected

Sorry about putting this here guys. There’s this new site that has been stealing all my content (and content from a lot of other great bloggers) called Anime Sensai. They really suck. But I figure I might as well use the opportunity for some advertising. So if you actually came across this post on Anime Sensai, please know that 1 – they did not write it and 2 – although their bots are doing a pretty good job at stealing posts from all over as soon as they are published, they don’t seem to do to great at lifting al the awesome screencaps I collected or all the extra material bloggers put into their content. So make sure to go visit the source link you see on top of posts and as for this one, just come visit my blog: I Drink and Watch Anime. I post daily and actually have awesome readers to interact with. I’m going t be posting this paragraph on top of my posts for a little while. I hope it doesn’t annoy you guys too much.

Every year since I started this blog, I take a little time to look back on the search terms that have led people to I Drink and Watch Anime.

At first, it was a source of deep amusement and wonder as the weirdest things seem to pop up. On occasion, I have been very proud to have reached like-minded thinkers with intriguing questions. You can see those past posts here if you’re curious:

Sadly, as time went on, I got a little disillusioned with my search terms. You might be able to tell by my post titles. Isn’t that how it always goes? With every passing year, more and more of the terms were clearly just people looking from “anime pr0n” and very little else.

Some of the searches made me really uncomfortable. I was baffled at how they could lead to my goofy and generally PG website. And I started to get seriously mixed feelings about these posts. Part of me was still curious about the search terms and occasionally some could be very funny or intriguing. But a lot of those terms left me feeling a little sad. I clearly wasn’t providing what anime fans are searching for and I also just felt a disconnect.

So it was with some reluctance that I loaded up my searched terms for the year and looked through them. You know what…2022 has been a pretty good year…in search terms!

this is one glorious purple mullet – you gotta give the people what they want!

The number one search that has brought multiple people to my site was: mullet violet anime character! I’m not sure which exact character they were looking for but that search will bring them to my Top 5 Anime Mullets (https://drunkenanimeblog.com/2020/07/10/my-top-5-anime-mullets/) and I love that post. I talk about anime mullets way more than even I understand but you know what, if the shoe fits and all that. I am a-ok, even a little happy, to be known as the anime mullet lady!

The second most popular search: shadow house s2 rosemary phantom incident. Multiple people looked for this exact thing. I really like Shadows House and have recommended it to a lot of folks. Seeing people actively look for it makes me happy. Seeing that my site can provide some info, makes me even happier. This is great.

And what is the 3rd most popular search: anime female sports lead. This might be a fanservice thing but it could also be Sports anime fans looking for one with a female lead since those are rare. And you know what, that’s cool. I’m happy about that.

scorching ping pon girls is a classic!

So then it goes not the sex and nudity stuff but still, the three top searches are all things you can actually find on my blog and that I might search for myself. This cheered me up, a lot!

In fact, there are a lot more fun search terms. In the top 10 I have:

So like 8 of the top 10 searches were not ecchi. I really didn’t expect that at all.

Other searches that caught my eye:

drifters lotr : One of the first reviews I wrote was on Drifters. I really liked the anime. I noted in my reviews that a lot of the visuals seemed strongly influenced by (or referencing) The Lord of the Rings and speculated if that was a foreshadowing of things to come. I am psyched that people still watch drifters and still make that connection. I should really read the manga to find out what happens next

Vanitas funny: yes it is funny! Very funny. I hope my posts made that come across.

anime character you must not trust: I feel like that’s most of them

There were also tons of variations on anime mullet searches or searches for anime characters with specific hair colours (pink being the top one).

Don’t get me wrong, despite the top 10 being so clean, 95% of my search terms are in fact still people looking for hentai. I reviewed Magical Girls Asuka and mentioned the show’s penchant for putting a lot of fanservice in the many torture scenes. And now I have dozens of “sexy anime girl tortured” types of searches. I also reviewed The Island of Giant Insects, which turned out to be an ecchi and a so bad it’s funny type of movie. The amount of anime insect sex searches I get is troubling. I have reviewed a lot of other stuff too guys. Arguably better stuff than the Island of Giant Insects.

There are searches for specific fetishes and a lot of just “nude” searches. I have this search term complete with emoji: gif anime 28+🥵. I wonder if the 28+ is a typo or a specific preference. Heck, I even have a Vanitas sex search. Ok then.

Did you know that Gojo is 28 years old?

The ones I like the least are the gross ones. Suggestive searches that specifically include vomit for instance. Or this little gem: japanese diarrhea in panties which no less than 5 people searched for and I don’t want to know. Aww man, just because I wrote it here I’m going to get double those searches next year, aren’t I???

But you know what, among all of those I also got a lot of searches for specific anime or scenes. Also, more innocent image searches like group picture of all demon slayers hashiras or anime gif rich. It’s a much less disheartening list than I have seen in the past few years. I guess people are starting to go out more and are a bit less thirsty.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s fine to like hentai and searches for it on the net. That is more or less what the internet is for. It’s just that when you get bombarded by search lists that are really nothing but that and you don’t write about hentai, it’s a bit depressing. It feels like you completely missed the mark. So having a top 10 list of searches that is so much closer to my actual content is a huge win for me. It makes me feel like I’m getting a little better at connecting with the folks that are actually interested in the type of content I produce.

And really, if you only take one thing away from this post is that I am your go-to person for anime mullets! Bring it on 2023, you better have some amazing hairstyles for me!
