Dr. Stone 3 Episode 7 – Gallery Post

Dr. Stone just got real! This episode probably had some of the most significant story reveals so far and we are talking all about over on Crow’s World of Anime. You should definitely go check it out as it’s bound to be a doozy!

But you know, there were some nice screencaps to be had as well. And here are some of my favourites!

I have it admit I was a little disappointed that all they did to make it stormy is to add a flat grey filter over the images. I was hoping for lightning flashes at least and deeper shadows. It wasn’t bad but just a bit of a lazy way to go. To be clear, I’m not blaming the show for this. Dr. Stone looks really good and often very lush. I have to imagine that the budget is already both impressive and strained. I’m just greedy and there was a way to make the stormy scenes way more interesting, especially when it comes to light and shadows.

The superdeformed, exaggerated faces on Dr. Stone get all the attention, and they are pretty striking. But I think we sometimes forget just how nicely expressive the character models are even when it’s not completely blown out of proportion. You can clearly see fear, concern, anger, or joy in rather subtle ways and tell what a character is thining from an expression on an out-of-context screencap. That’s quite impressive and rarer than you may think!

So how far is Treasure Island from Japan? It’s probably not that far since they seemed to only be sailing for a few days at most. And old-timey sailing was not renowned for being particularly speedy. I’m asking because the it looks a lot like the environment of the village. You know, same plants, same colours, same forests and same-looking sea.
