The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today – Episode 1

Some of you may remember that I have written about the manga The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today. I ended up quite liking the first volume and have in fact kept up with the manga as they come out. It’s just really cute. So I was super excited to see that an adaptation was coming out.

I’m not sure how popular it is/will be but I figure why not share the watch with you guys. Happy fluffy shows are my jam!

GoHands kind of have a reputation as a studio and not necessarily a beloved one. I think they could choose their properties a little better but I personally have no issues with the visuals they produce. Heck, some are even interesting. For instance, the whole opening sequence of this first episode of The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today looked like some sort of serious drama. You could have told me it was a new season of Psycho Pass and I would have believed you based on appearances alone. Since I have read the manga I knew what I was in for but I wonder how people that were going in blind took it.

And by it, I mean the first glimpse of Yukichi!

I thought it was a nice little odd visual subversion and definitely an interesting way to start the show. It grabbed my attention right from the start!

I think that part of the reason I liked this story is that I relate to Saku quite a bit. A somewhat useless dork that fools everyone at work into thinking she’s super efficient while being mostly a likable mess. Yup, relatable! Also, I want a giant cat to cook for me! I actually would want a giant cat even if it didn’t cook for me as long as it didn’t eat me or my friends. The bar is pretty low really.

Also, did Saku get two diners in a row? I want that two. I am soooo jealous of a cartoon character right now!

And if you guys saw this episode AND have a job, you have had exactly the type of morning Saku had, at some point, right? I loved that scene. Yukichi giving her a big hug and unceremoniously throwing her out. It was perfect.

I have to say, one of my very favourite things is to have a few moments with someone I care about before heading out to work. Even if that actually just means taking a step into my home office. It just starts the day off right! I highly recommend it. Second best is some vigorous exercise!

The entire series are these little vignettes, so if you didn’t like how the first episode was more of a collection of really small stories, the series might not be for you. I personally found it really relaxing and just downright enjoyable. I kind of wish I was discovering it for the first time. I think I would have found it even more charming.

I also know that there are some really nice moments up ahead and I’m excited about this season. I’m not sure how much I’ll ave to say about every episode but at the very least, I can say cute cat, delicious food, and good friends. Now isn’t that just the most perfect situation you can think of?
