So it’s not just a two-part episode, it’s a three-parter! That caught me by surprise. Since I have all this extra time, sure I must have guessed who the culprit is, right? Well yes, of course I have… And I might not tell you the right one in this post because I don’t want to spoil it for you. I just care about you guys that much!
So what have we learned… Ok, I get all the information the show is conveying and I’m really happy about the cue that the lights must have been shot out earlier in the day but the reason is that it would have been impossible to do so with such precision in the dark…? Really!?! That’s the reason? Not the fact that nobody heard the extra 9 gunshots or whatever. The one shot they did hear was very loud and clear. It got everyone in the place to the observation room immediately. But no one questioned that they hadn’t heard any other shots? They assumed it was an extremely convenient ricochet? If you’re going to go with that theory, why not accept that the killer memorized exactly where all the lights are. Maybe one of them is secretly blind and unaffected by the dark… I’m just saying, they had such an easy explanation right there.
Ok, so we can assume that it was premeditated. That’s a great clue. So it’s personal. We have not been told that anyone knew her before meeting on the island so it’s probably something to do with her work or with an incident that happened in her past. If she had a hit-and-run we were never told about then I can’t really do much about it but she did say she’s a photojournalist and those poor saps get murdered a lot in detective stories so there might be something there.
Ok, to be honest, I kind of want it to be Orihime. I don’t know why. I really like the character but the kookiness of her and the clash she represents just makes me think it would be super fun if we see her do a classic scooby doo and turn all evil at the end. I would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for… I am desperately trying to make that deduction work somehow. Maybe Onodera gave her a bad review or something. Yes, I know photojournalists don’t actually do that but let me dream!
Ok, maybe I’m grasping at straw. But just maybe!!!! Professor Grizzly’s murder is not much of a clue. Although it is the first time we see someone die onscreen and it was a bit of a shock for me. I was surprised by how quickly the tone went back to pure comedy but Ron Kamonohashi is that type of show. I keep having to remind myself! It’s not any sort of clue because we can assume that John Grizzly got a bit too close to figuring things out and the murderer had to kill him to cover their tracks. Anyone would do that – easy peasy. Although for such a big guy to get thrown out of a window. Well, it makes my idol theory a bit more shaky. But just a bit!
The boring but well-foreshadowed answer, in my opinion, is the owner/director guy. I haven’t exactly worked it out and it wouldn’t hold up in court but it’s been pretty heavily implied that this incident is somehow linked to the one that happened a few years ago. That case was unsolved and I bet we will have a double whammy next week. He’s the one character that links those two incidents. I think that there’s something he didn’t want people to find out about that past incident. Maybe it was an accident bit also his fault. He was a kid playing with that good luck display gun or something. And a photojournalist was snooping into that story. Maybe even before the meteor shower and he actually invited her to get rid of her. There are a lot of maybes and a lot of fill in the blanks but I wouldn’t be too disappointed if he turned out to be the culprit since I’ve always been the type of person who enjoys mysteries that can be solved by the audience and if I can do it…even Toto can!
But really, no one thought about the fact that there was only one gunshot. I mean even if it was earlier in the day, they didn’t hear the gunshots? This bugs me!
