The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today – Episode 4

YAY!!! Like I mentioned last week, I was looking forward to the idol show at the aquarium. And I was not disappointed. I’m not sure why the idea thrills me so much but if an idol show was to be put on in an aquarium anywhere east of Saskatchewan, I would be there! I would take time off work and everything. It feels like something you shouldn’t miss, you know?

I can’t be the only one that puts in effort to keep their size down just because they want to make sure they fit into those cute dresses that can’t be replaced anymore. ‘Cmon, I,m not the only one, right? All I can say is that if I had a Yukichi at home to alter my clothes for me, I would definitely be doing less exercise. And he would cook delicious meals for me as well! Goodbye, waistline! You know what though!?! Totally worth it. Heck it would be worth it just for the giant cat!

In four episodes this is the second time that a joke has been made about Saku’s weight and it’s not the strongest joke if you ask me. First of all, it doesn’t help that she is drawn as the traditionally impossibly thin anime standard but she also looks the same as all the other characters so it’s a little dissonant when the text doesn’t match the visuals.

This said, I do understand and even relate to it. As much as I would love to say that women no longer fret about their size or weight, some do and that’s ok. I do and if any of you do, let me tell you something, you probably still look great to everyone else. Like Saku does!

Man Yume is cute! She was cute in the manga but this is next level! Also, does undercover bus Yukichi give anyone else Ghibli vibes? I’m not sure why, maybe it’s the hat. Is that a Ghibli-looking hat? You know what, I’m going to say that it is.

I always like aquariums in anime. I think it’s the blue colour palette that I find soothing. Since aquariums are a surprisingly popular setting in anime (I’m not sure if they are that popular in Japan in general) I always look forward to episodes set in one. And this was no exception. I loved all the Aquarium scenes. I don’t have a screencap of it but I particularly liked that little bubble Yukichi stuck his head into to feel like he was underwater. That looked like fun.

Maybe I just want to go on an aquarium date…

Awww, they make for a cute little family. And that’s exactly what the show wants me to think. Well, you’re not going to get me show! It’s super weird that a supervisor coerced an employee to help babysit his niece with no warning. Better than the alternative but still, real weird. And also… ok I got nothing. They make a cute couple. The boss guy might be somewhere on the spectrum which could account for his unusual communication skills but they seem to get along.

More importantly, the cuteness combo of Yume and Yukichi is irresistible. They are so much fun together. I wish we would have seen the scene of Yukichi giving her the sandwiches. Did she find him or was it the other way around. Also, she said that Yukichi told her to share them but Yukichi doesn’t talk. At least, I don’t think so… Maybe he only talks to children? Man, if Yukichi can talk and just has never done so with Saku for whatever reason, that would be hilarious!

I love when Yukichi tries to use stuff made for ordinary cats. Like that cat bed, he uses as a helmet. And let’s be real about this, that cat tower must be humongous. Yukichi is not just big for a cat, he’s considerably bigger than most people. There is no way he could balance on a cat tower at all! But it’s a great image!

I never really thought about it but Yukichi is probably still a kid. Maybe a teenager. Saku’s had him for about a year, right? And he was a kitten when she found him so he’s still quite young. That’s why he’s obsessed with an idol group aimed at children. When you think about it, he is really incredibly responsible for his age! Truly a masterful cat indeed 🙂
