As some of you may know, we are currently in the mid-season break. That is the time when some of the summer season shows have ended but the fall shows have not started. And that’s the time when I take a minute to figure out what I’m watching next. Seriously, I put way more effort into planning my anime watching, than figuring out my taxes. Priorities!
Just for fun, I figured I would share my thoughts with you guys. And if you want to let me know what you’re planning to watch, that would be great!
Anime I will watch as it’s airing (might review)
I only realized recently that the new season of Demon Slayer is airing and that was a no-brainer. Unlike a lot of my blogging contemporaries I had a lot of fun with this show and thought that after a rocky start, it got really good. I also had a great time reviewing it with Crow so I hope to do it again this season!
I will also be reviewing Kyoukai Senki with Scott this season. I have had great luck with mecha shows in the past few years. Not only have I enjoyed them all (quite a bit) some of them even made it to my favourites. And I feel like watching a mecha with Scott is the premium experience so I wasn’t going to miss out.
I really love the Blue Period manga. A LOT! And when I heard it had gotten picked up for an anime adaptation I got very excited and very curious. I’m not saying this isn’t a story that is going to be great as an anime but it’s not as obvious a fit as other titles. I can’t wait and there’s no way I will wait for any more than I have to. Let me know if you would like episode reviews. Or Gallery reviews, it would be fitting for this show.
Platinum End activated me because it reminds me of Angel Sanctuary. On top of that, it’s labelled as a mystery which is a great way to get my attention. I think there’s a 50% chance that this is going to be a complete mess but also a decent chance of it being a fun hot mess! I wanna find out which.
I think I’m one of the very few bloggers that bother with what could be considered pretty boy shows and I sort of feel an odd sense of duty to review visual prison. I also like visual kei. So you know…
Anime I will definetly binge after the season
I really like both Jojo and World Trigger. There was absolutely no question that I would be watching these seasons. But I do enjoy watching them in one fell swoop. They’re both high-action and it’s just great to get the adrenaline going and go through a fight in one go!
I played Muv Luv as a visual novel and I did like it. It got a bit long in places but there are some interesting plot points. Visual Novel adaptations tend to be great or barely watchable and I’m not sure how easy this particular pick will be to adapt ut I definitely want to see. I’m in no hurry though.
Both Deji Meets Girl (a short, YAY) and Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu got me on the key visuals. Not that the descriptions weren’t interesting, that’s why they’re on the list at all, but those visuals just caught my eye. Deji just looks beautiful and the colours are amazing while Kyuuketsuki reminds me a bit of Kemono Jihen’s character designs. I recently watched Kemono and loved it so I was sold. I also liked the Kemono visuals a whole lot! Kyuuketsuki is also a supernatural comedy with vampires… it was always going to be on this list!
Finally, we have Sakugann!!, another mecha and the third one so far. Like I said, I have had great luck with them. The premise sounds very familiar, almost cliché but also like a lot of my favourite fiction. I can wait the season but I want to watch it.
The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window or Sankaku Mado no Sotogawa wa Yoru is probably the oddest pick. But listen, that title rocks, the genres AniChart has it as is simply Comedy, Drama and the key visuals are super ominous. It got me by curiosity, I want to watch it.
I will probably watch these, I just don’t know when
Sometimes seasonal reviews come out and make me drop a show. Honestly, this often happens because of an exhausting fanbase rather than anything to actually do with the show but it does happen.
This said all of these are shows I really do want to see eventually. I’m just not in a hurry. I feel like Komi is the one I’m most likely to drop. I’ve read a few volumes of the manga and it was fine but probably something I’m more likely to enjoy in anime form. However, I found the fanbase of the Komi manga a little intense as it is, I don’t know what’s going to happen with the anime fans. It might turn into a show that I hear so much about I sort of no longer feel the need to watch it.
For the others, it’s pretty sure that I will watch them, probably sooner rather than later as my to-watch list is slowly widdling down. I’m actually really interested in Deep Insanity. I’m just a little worried that it’s going to be depressing. I’m not a big fan of depressing fiction.
17 anime is actually on the low side for me in a season. Which explains why my to-watch list is so monstrous. I’m not saying 17 anime is not a lot, in fact, I think I should keep it at around that number if I can because my usual number is just ridiculous!
That’s it for me. What are you guys thinking of seeing next season? Is there anything I should add or anything you want episode reviews of? Let me know.
